Celebrating the solstice a little late

It’s “throw back Tuesday” and this is from 2016. It made me smile and now have a song worm in my brain!

I love summer. The solstice is exciting. To celebrate I sang my favorite summer song to the beloved husband. It was off-key and the paragraphs were mixed up but the words were all there. I can’t remember what I ate for lunch yesterday but I can remember words to a seasonal song from 50+ years ago.

The nymphs or sprites or whatever were creating havoc here. The beloved husband and I both had very weird dreams. He didn’t remember his but I woke up with a vivid memory. There was a man (age appropriate — no young’uns for me) that I know in my dream but it wasn’t a weird sex dream.

You know the kind. You wake up the next morning and you are so embarrassed to see the person because well…you are convinced they HAVE to know. They were there! You need a cold shower! (At least that’s how I remember it!) I suppose that nature’s way of keeping the population going.

Those dreams stopped a long time ago and that’s good. The people in my dreams were never people I wanted to couple with.

All that dreaming was exhausting. I needed a two-hour nap in the middle of the afternoon to recover. A delightful luxury for a retired person. Or maybe it was the heat (not complaining!). I woke up in time for happy hour.

Meanwhile back at the pond, the solstice and its energy pull got the frogs all torqued up again. There was more conga line stuff going on. Oy vay!

Hope your solstice was full of conga line stuff and positive energy!

Here is a threesome swaying to the music!

Here is a threesome swaying to the music! Yes, this is my pond with my frogs. No, I’m not embarrassed! It’s nature.

  1. Conga Line, huh??? Must be the season for love!

I have to report this – The other day, early in the morning, I could hear a lot of fairly loud cooing… and it grew louder. I was curious, so I took a look outside where I have a fairly large bird bath.

    And what did I see?

2 Pigeons “makin’ Whoopee!” in the birdbath!!!!!!

A whole lot of “splashin’ goin’ on!”

    What a morning!!!

  2. I like the song, but don’t remember it which is strange as some good friends had a 50s band and my girlfriends and i would dress up like Bobby Soxers and go see them sometimes. I thought I knew all those tunes. They were short, so easy to learn the words. The frogs in a conga line – funny! I follow a UK photographer who has a “thing” about photographing or taking videos of birds, frogs, even dragonflies mating … nothing wrong with it occasionally, but at least a few times a week guaranteed every Spring.

      • Well I thought of you today since we discussing old songs last night. I went down to the River for a walk and an older guy was in his vehicle with an oldies station turned full blast to “Bobby’s Girl” … big 50s song and like I mentioned last night, my girlfriends and I would go to see our friends’ 50s/greaser band … that was one of the songs and we’d lip synch sometimes while dancing (with each other). I stopped myself from singing and walked on by. :)

        • I remember it well. Picture it — 1960. My bestie was “in love” with a guy whose name was Robert so Bobby. We sang that sucker ALL THE TIME! I have to google her to see whatever happened to her. We lost touch after high school.

          • Wow – that’s a good memory for you too! I heard it and flashed back 50+ years in a heartbeat. I hope you get in touch with your high school bestie. This weekend is our annual, local cruising event, so lots of people in their 50s and 60s cars or even trucks, rolling down Fort Street, with the oldies station blaring from the open windows. In Memorial Park they have a couple of bands playing 50s and 60s music. I once suggested to the mayor in an e-mail that they have a contest and dress up like the 50s … award a prize and the mayor said “I like it – you organize it, form a committee okay?” I almost volunteered, but I was still working and said “nope, just an idea for YOU to run with.” I’ll bet it would be fun though.

              • Yes, that’s very true and also if you volunteer once, you are looked to for any follow-up events/projects. I kind of threw it out there thinking it would be fun … the local oldies station always broadcasts at the park a block away from me which was/is fun as the DJ would show up and interview bystanders.

    • Thanks. From my old house I miss the pond the most. Then I miss the screened porch and the location was more convenient. We are more rural where we are and while some people love that, it’s a longer drive to the things that we like.

  3. Conga lines and weird dreams huh? Well now….that just proves the old hormones are still twitching around right? LOL Seriously, I have either quit dreaming or stopped remembering them if I do. Weird. Always was a dreamer until I got old. We’re finally getting some rain which we REALLY needed. Not enough to fix the drought but enough that I don’t have to water my outside stuff constantly. I don’t get rewind notes from WP – does it matter if I have a free blog?

    Hugs, Pam

  4. Glad you’re enjoying summer. It’s not my favorite season but nature apparently didn’t give me a vote on when she rolls them out. Wilson and I will just have to suck it up till the more palatable seasons come along. Enjoy!

P.S. We don’t even want to go into my dream diary. Talk about weird!
