Happy November lovely readers! – It’s the weekend we turn the clocks back in parts of the US. Someone needs to explain that to my cats who weren’t impressed when I didn’t get up on their time this morning. It will take until Wednesday until I acclimate them. I am including my favorite clipart, dedicated it to Monika from Tails Around the Ranch who is very vocal about her feelings on time changes! 😊
Reconnecting – The blogging world is like no other. We make friends for a long time even after someone stops posting. This week I reconnected with a blogger (who no longer blogs) from my early days here. I was looking for some information which I knew she would have. It was like talking to an old friend. We shared experiences that we didn’t know we had in common.
November changes everything – Many of my friends don’t like to drive at night so from fall to March, we get together for lunch instead of dinner. Factoring in medical appointments, errands and OMG we can’t forget mahjong, life gets hectic. I try to keep some “me time” in there too (so I don’t get too grumpy). It will settle down in January when no one wants to go out in the cold unless they must but the next couple of months will be hectic.
Sayonara baby! – Just like jury duty, I’ve aged out of colonoscopies. I had my last one this week and there was nothing new in there. Best news ever! I will still sympathize with you if you need one, but I’ll be smiling inside.
Waxing philosophical – I was discussing colonoscopies with a friend this week. I’ve been having them or some version of similar invasion since my 20s. At first it was barium enemas. They were done in a hospital where they pumped barium up your wazoo to look for problems. No anesthesia. Then there were sigmoidoscopies. Vacuum hoses stuck in there and again, no anesthesia. Even the cleanout preps have come a long way from the castor oil I had to take with the first one. No matter how much you hate colonoscopies, they are head and shoulders above the old methods of peering at your innards and a lot less painful than colon cancer treatments.
So how was your week?
Glad all is well internally! It’s very true that medical testing has gotten so much better over the years. I remember my first mammogram – it was just terrible! And waiting for the response just took forever, stressing about it for weeks. Now it’s no big deal at all and you usually know within a day or two. I am due a colonoscopy in the next year or two, and am desperately hoping its less of a deal as well.

It isn’t my favorite procedure. I have IBS which makes it worse. I was prescribed a 2 step cleanout. Never did the second step. Today is a blood test. Fingers crossed for that. The last time they had some vein trouble. 😦

That cartoon just rocks me. Totally hilarious. We’ve managed the time change pretty well – Hank and I still get up with the sun…although he thinks it’s bedtime once the sun goes down…and would prefer a bit of light for his 8:30 last walk before bed.
So happy you’ve come of age well! YEA!

Since retirement (quite a while back) I get up with the sun too. No point in getting out of bed in the dark if you don’t have to.

That is a positive about aging–aging out of colonoscopies! As you know, mine is the beginning of December. I’m hoping it goes well and I only have one more ahead of me. Congrats to you on being DONE!!!!

Good luck to you one your procedure. May it be eventless.

A lovely experience with the blogger friend. Sometimes we all need a bright spot like that.

I love the Stonehenge clipart.
Usually I see lots of reminders about the change of time. This year I didn’t see anything. Waking up, I couldn’t understand why the clock I can see from my bed didn’t have the same time as my phone. I wish we would all just keep Standard Time. I prefer reality. Besides, very few of us are farmers anymore.

I suppose I’m a dinosaur. I like the extra light in the summer evenings but I can adjust easily. Perhaps because people are more dependent on electronics for time keeping than clocks, there wasn’t as much talk about it. I heard a few reminders, but very few.

That’s great that you have aged out of colonoscopies and jury duty too! Who says the “Golden Years” shouldn’t come with a few perks, right? I have kept in touch with two former bloggers, just occasionally, a few times a year. One still follows me but does not comment on the posts, but will comment when she e-mails.

There are many bloggers I have lost touch with. I have the email address of a few and have meet a couple. Bloggers make great friends because you get to know them through their posts. Sometimes bloggers just disappear into the ether and you have no idea what happened to them.

Yes. It is good that we have everyone’s e-mail address displayed, but then that only appears in current comments.

Glad you got results on the colonoscopy. I am 56 and already don’t drive at night. 🙂

It only gets worse! There are some perks though.

Cats don’t believe in time change. Mine is very vocal too.

We are slowly changing feeding times. It’s the mornings that are the hardest.

We should age out on some things, especially colonoscopies. I didn’t have one until I was way up there but it sounds like the early stuff was worse! Ugh! A good week here with some cooler weather, for us at least. Cheers!

Yes, colonoscopies, pap smears and jury duty! 🙂

I think I have at least one more colonoscopy in my future, but I hope, after that, I’m done. As you say though, they are much preferred over colon cancer treatments.
I don’t like to drive at night either. I enjoy meeting for lunch and a walk around an interesting area, especially if the alternative is driving somewhere in the dark. I am already counting the days until the clocks are set back to DST.

I’m looking forward to spring and long light days for sure! I’m running out of daylight to plan things! Fall is nice and the holidays are great but come January 2, I’m ready to move on!

I am glad you’re past the colonoscopy stage! There are some advantages to getting older!

Funny pic! And my cat was on top of me at his usual time wanting me up. I forgot to shut the door to lock him out!

Locking cats out never worked. Their lungs can penetrate a foot thick concrete wall!

Tankie was apparently worried when everyone still sleeping at 4 AM. He bashed open our bedroom door to check on us. So sweet of him…

First off, Stonehenge . . . LOL! We do have it easy EXCEPT that we have so many clocks to adjust!
Second, I thought this might be your last one, but didn’t want to imply that you are older than you are if I was wrong. See how politic I am? 😀
Third, I prefer going out for lunch for any number of reasons . . . not driving after dark being one of them. Enjoy!

We converted to atomic clocks that reset themselves many years ago. Electronics reset themselves so all we have are the appliance clocks. That’s enough! My last colonoscopy was supposed to be my last one. My PC insisted. I compromised with a Cologuard which failed so….the rest is history!

When we are young, we want to be old enough TO . . . ride a bike, lose a tooth, stay up late, etc.
When we are older, we want to be old enough NOT TO . . . have colonoscopies, jury duty, mammograms, etc. 😀

I need mammograms but I don’t have to get pap smears! Yay for little victories.

Congrats on tapping out of the colonoscopies segment of life. Good for you!
I actually prefer standard time…or at least my bio-rhythms seem to cope better. But thanks for the shout out. I still think it’s one of the dumbest things Congress has ever done (and continues to do) and that’s saying something! Hope the kitties acclimate quickly. While I feel like I’ve been up forever (and it’s only 8:30), I’ve managed to get a lot done this morning. Then I can relax at a well earned body massage this afternoon. Ahhhhh.

You had me at body massage! My person retired from doing those right before the pandemic and I haven’t found (or tried) anyone since. I really should. I can’t tell what my body would prefer. It seems to adjust easily to whatever is going on.

The spring is really rough on me-it takes weeks until I can level out.
I feel really blessed with my massage therapist. Been going to her for well over 20 years. She is the tiniest person who ‘hurts me real good.’ She finds spots I didn’t realize were knotted up and makes they feel ever so much better.

But isn’t lunch the best? I prefer it to meeting for dinner anyway. You have all afternoon to work off those slices of pie you said you wouldn’t have. Happy November to you too Kate. Your house always looks so inviting when it gets cold. 🙂

Yes I love lunch except I run out of openings! It’s cheaper and the amount you get is more appropriate!

I can’t wait to age out of colonoscopies…due next year. Ugh. But I remember having one decades ago where they didn’t use anesthesia – it was not at all fun. The prep has gotten better, but still…ugh. Glad you’re all done with them!

I had anxiety going into it because if they found something, I would have to have another. It all worked out ok. It was barbaric back in the old days.

Congrats on a clear colonoscopy AND on aging out of that torture. I giggled when you said you would sympathize with anyone else having to have one but you’d be “smiling on the inside” and I wanna say I bet your insides will be smiling too! No more invasions!
