A productive week – This week was low on appointments and high on projects. I finished one wallpaper job that’s been hanging around for a few months. My family room is officially done. I have one more wallpaper job to do in the new bath. That won’t happen this week but the next time I have a few open days. I haven’t wallpapered in 20 years, and I forgot how physically challenging it is (for an old person). Muscles that had long been in retirement were used and they aren’t happy about it.
The last shot for the season – Today we will get our flu shot. It’s the last one. Yay! I don’t get a reaction like I do from the covid shot but I may treat myself to a lazy day anyway. I deserve it after that wallpaper job! Double mochas and dinner from the crock pot and maybe a book to read.
Speaking of crock pots – I used to use it a lot. I would get several meals out of it and it’s not really work. If you brown your meat, you can do that the day before. I have yet to buy an air fryer. Not because I don’t want to (I love kitchen gadgets) but because I don’t know where to store it. Maybe one of these days. My friends who have one love it.
Least loved visits – We went to the veterinarian this week for Sasha. You can read about the dreadful trip here. In two weeks, I’ll be taking both Sasha and Gus in for dentals. I’m already dreading it although I have meds to give them before the trip so they will be relaxed and hopefully quiet. I’ve had cats react to anesthesia in the past so I’m always anxious, but these should be simple and short. More mochas and maybe another crock pot meal or a pizza.
Comfort food – During stressful times, I love my comfort food. It’s usually high in carbs and low in protein (although I like a lot of eggs). Pizza is high on the list with spaghetti, mac and cheese and soups. You won’t find green stuff on the list although cabbage strudel would make the list if it wasn’t so dang complicated to make. I don’t know how these came to be, but it’s set in stone. Add in an old Castle (old TV program) rerun and I’m in heaven.
So how was your week?

Your food sounds great! The wall-papering does not! Too much hard work!

But it’s very nice looking. Adds texture. I wasn’t foolish enough to wallpaper a room, just a wall.

I think I could outdo you in a comfort food contest. Ha! I have been justifying my choices for about as long now as I can get away with, and I see my GP next week (labs this morning) and of course I’m going to play the “I’m a new widow” card, but I do need an intervention. We’ll see what the scale and the lab results tell me!
I’m so impressed with your wallpapering. I don’t think I’ve ever been good at it, but I’m sure I wouldn’t be up to it now. Your home must be coming along beautifully, Kate. Good for you!

This round of wallpaper finishes off the kitchen and family room. I have the master bath to do a little bit of wallpaper (not the whole room) and then that will be done. The last big projects are DONE!

We recently did a small wall with wallpaper. Muscles that we didn’t know existed were put to the test.
I LOVE a crockpot meal!

My wall was 9′ so I needed to use a ladder a lot. There are leg muscles that have been in retirement and were not happy to be out of retirement! 🙂

LOL – we are watching Castle reruns a lot these days! I do like crockpot meals as well – so easy to throw together, and then the house smells great all day. Wallpapering is kind of terrible. We did that one wall in my office here, and will probably never do it again.

I use our slow cooker every few weeks but the thing is that when you stay home all day it can be torture to smell what’s cooking. All I know about air fryers is that I hear they’re difficult to clean properly. Don’t know why, just that they are.

I know! Even when I worked, when I walked in it was intoxicating! Some air fryers advertise as easy to clean so some must be hard to clean. No easy answers.

I’m waiting for a bit cooler weather to break out the soups. I do need to start looking up good crock pot recipes. I’m not a big fan of cooking, so tossing stuff into the crock pot is my kind of thing!

I like anything that allows me to prep in the morning with little work at night. During the summer I do sheet pan meals. I can prep veggies in the morning, toss everything together and cook for dinner. One pan, easy peasy.

Hmm, I may need to try that.

I got my flu and COVID shots about six weeks ago now, a little earlier than usual, but I had a dentist appointment in October and am still a little nervous about going to the dentist since the pandemic. I use my crockpot a lot since I only cook for myself. I have zero counter room and the crockpot is oval and heavy, so it stays there all the time, with not much room for anything else. I follow a cooking blog and Diane uses her air fryer a lot and often has recipes for meals she makes with it – they all look delicious and air fried, so healthier as well. My contractor finally finished the backyard and side yard “gutting” and mulching – I have all Winter to decide what to plant there now. Whew, I am glad that is over.

Great news about the yard. I had to space out my shots with my Prolia shot so it took a while to get them all. I’m afraid that I would buy an air fryer and then now use it enough to take up all the space. I continue to think about it though.

Yes, I’m happy for it to be finished … he took forever after it was supposed to take two or three days. I know how you felt now with your renovation – good idea to tackle the wallpaper yourself. 🙂 I have all Winter to dwell on what perennials and bushes to put back there now. I had to Google Prolia shot and now I understand. I know Diane makes a lot of different things with her air fryer. She had a kitchen renovation this Spring and Summer and so she moved her fridge into another room and had a big table with her favorite small appliances to get her and her husband through the renovation until she could use the stove.

We did that too. Along with take out.

I thought you did that – you’d go crazy trying to cook a meal daily the length of time both of you were dealing with renovations.

My flu shot is Tuesday and I don’t think I’ll have any reaction like I did with covid shot. I love my air fryer and use it several times a week.I don’t like looking at it on my counter, it’s too big. Luckily I found room in the kitchen cupboard to store it away until used.

That is perfect. If I could find a spot to store it I would give it a whirl.

I have an air fryer, but I am not thrilled with it.It is hard to store all the gadgets. I was happy when my bread machine broke so I could clear some space. 🙂 I will be praying the dentals go well.

I used the bread machine for a while but then I lost interest and gave it away. You can’t really store an air fryer. You have to leave it on the counter and that’s the problem. My husband has a coffee maker and toaster on the counter and I don’t want anything else there. If I had a deep pantry maybe I’d be more willing to try it.

We’ve gotten our flu and Covid shots, haven’t wallpapered anything in years, still use a crockpot, and just finished a mocha delivered to me by my grandson who is working as a Barista at Starbucks. Every time he brings me one, I think of you. 🙂

Wow! Congratulations on the wallpapering.
I do a fair amount of cooking, but no crockpot or airfryer. I feel like I have enough gadgets.
Tonight I’m having spaghetti with asparagas on the side. My comfort foods are mainly sweet. I just ate a couple of cookies. They weren’t delicious, and yet they were somehow comforting.
I love the cartoon.

Good for you! Cooking for one isn’t fun at least for me. I have a sous vide immersion cooker and I use that all the time but it’s easy to store. An air fryer is big.

The one reason I tolerate the cold weather is because I enjoy making all of the comfort foods (mostly in the crockpot) and then freezing extras in batches for days when I just want to be lazy. I enjoy nesting and then staying inside with a good book (I don’t have a daily Starbucks fix that needs attention like you!). Although, rumor has it that this winter will be similar to last years, so no major weather to contend with! Comfort food? Instant mashed potatoes well-doctored is about the easiest there is – that or instant oatmeal! And the kid inside me makes sure to have toast dipped into hot chocolate at least once a winter!
Good luck keeping track of who is going to the vet when for what! It’s good that you and your hubby don’t have as many medical appointments as the fur-babies… You’d likely meet yourself coming in the door on your way out!

Buttered toast dipped in hot chocolate is a kids equivalent to Tomato soup and grilled cheese. It was our warm-up treat after being out playing in the snow.

I don’t use my crockpot very often, but I love the concept of dump and go meals. Maybe I’ll make a chili this week… yum!
I bought an air fryer a bit ago and found that I used it fairly often (it’s just the two of us and I hated warming up the big oven for a small meal). Then, because my sis-in-law has one and loves it, I bought a Braville Smart Oven Pro. Now, my air fryer is put away and my Braville has become my go-to. I wish I had a bigger kitchen so I could fit everything and still have plenty of counter space…

It’s bigger than my air fryer but it does everything (including air frying). It’s pretty much a mini oven.

It’s no fun cooking for one. Even cooking for two is tricky. You don’t want a ton of leftovers and you can’t get away with potato chips and a coke.

We did our flu shot last week. Covid shot second week of this month.
I love my crock pot. It was ignored for quite a while but now we are back on the crock pot bus and we bought a larger one last Thursday. Great for Sunday roast! All about comfort food and now we are really coming into comfort food time.
Finger crossed Sasha and Gus to well at the V. E. T. appointment.

We did the covid shot first and I usually feel lousy for about 12 hours. Not a big deal though. An excuse to treat myself. I get on the crockpot bandwagon in the fall. Somehow I don’t use it as much in the summer although I’m sure there a great summer recipes out there.

Hi, Kate – I don’t have an airfryer either (although my friends, like yours, constantly rave about theirs). My reasons are the same as yours – no space (and I really don’t want to learn how to use another gadget).
My slow cooker, on the other hand, I use frequently. So much so that it has a permanent space on my counter (very high rent district). I just made a big pot of chilli two nights ago, which I turned into a spaghetti-chilli casserole last night. I love the set-it-and-forget-it aspects of the slow cooker!

We don’t necessarily use our crockpot that often… on FB reels you see a lot of inventive ideas for the crockpot, but nope. Usually it’s apple brown betty… a waste considering the versatility of kitchen gadget. Also, I would love to get an airfryer, also a lot of things you can do there. 🙂

Never tackled wallpapering but I recognize my shortcomings and THAT kind of interior decorating is one of them! LOL Good luck to you……and also hope the double cat vet visit goes well. I love my crockpot – I can load it up and have a busy day without a panic attack about “what’s for dinner”…..there are so many delish things to make. Hubby’s fave meal is bratwurst and sauerkraut (with a beer for the “liquid”) and boy does that smell good after a few hours in the old crockpot!
