I was short on inspiration (and interesting experiences or artificially enhanced interesting experiences) so it’s a short post.
Planning – We spent a lot of time this week visiting showrooms and getting ideas for our bathroom renovation. It’s both fun and nerve wracking. Our space is small so there isn’t room for grand ideas. Just the basics in a functional way that’s easy to clean and gorgeous. Am I asking too much?
What was that about? – Earlier this week, the beloved husband complained about weird dreams interrupting his sleep. I don’t have weird dreams often, but I had them last night. They don’t make sense but disrupt the entire night’s sleep (although my Fitbit says I had 7 hours sleep!). They also increased the nocturnal pee runs. Not sure how that works but it does. It all happens on the same night. Are bad dreams contagious?
This is the week! – After many false starts and cancelled appointments (I’ve been working on this since August!), I’m scheduled to get my hearing aids this week. Hopefully they will help me hear all that useless chatter going on around me. Unless my appointment gets cancelled again.
So how was your week?

Hope the hearing aids work out well! It’s both fun and nerve-wracking going through renovation on your house. I don’t blame you for putting it off a little bit 🙂

I would like to have a new shower in the master bath and my other bathroom needs redecorating. The plumbers (God, bless them.) cut a hole in the wall. I hung a picture over it, but need a more permanent solution. It seems something else more important comes along and I have to keep putting it off.

This project has been delayed. We were going to do with the kitchen but that didn’t happen!

All your constant remodeling, moving, remodeling, etc. has inspired me. We bought a condo as a second home and place to vacation with the kids and are GUTTING it right now. After we remodelled where we live now about 15 years ago I swore I would never do it again . . . . If it goes bad, I’ll just blame Kate.

If the room didn’t need it, I wouldn’t be doing it. It was renovated about 12 years ago but not in a good way. The previous owners put mirrors all over which are impossible to keep clean. The shower is the original and the tile has black mold. We are close to the end of what we need to do here. The front pavers need work and that will be the last big job. After that I’m going to sit on the sofa and eat bonbons! 🙂

I’m hoping to do a remodel on our small guest bathroom one of these days. I wish I could just pick all the “ingredients” (flooring, vanity, hardware, etc.) and have it done. Unfortunately, my husband likes to do a lot of the work so our jobs take three times as long. Good luck with your remodel… share pictures!

We have those projects too and depending on cost, there are pieces of this that we may do ourselves. Yep, they take forever! Fortunately my husband can’t do the demolition or plumbing. Maybe some other stuff.

I love showrooms, even when I’m not remodeling. I love to look and dream. Enjoy! And I sure do hope your hearing aids are a great enhancement. I am sure they will be a game changer. Good for you. So many people (friends of mine) are reluctant to admit they need them. Not me. I’m pretty sure they’re in my future. 🙂 I can’t believe how discreet the new models are!

For me it’s not about vanity. Last time, the care and maintenance was more than I was ready to do. The batteries last 2 days and it always a case of fidgeting with the teeny tiny batteries. Then there was all the excess background noise I was getting. I could hear people a little better (and my pond noise) but I also got all the background noise which cancelled out the good stuff. Hopefully they can make more adjustments now.

Are you or the hubs taking any new medications or supplements? Sometimes even a natural supplement could cause weird dreams. When I tried melatonin, I had some weird dreams. Hope the kitty is okay (was it Sasha with the bump on her neck?).

I know you’ll enjoy your new bathroom and will soon be smiling about it. As for hearing aids, I like your awareness of how it is possible there might not be anything worth hearing. Made me smile.

No nocturnal pee runs but I have had more than my share of scary dreams. There was a time when I was afraid to sleep. I’m thinking they weren’t/are not contagious in our house because SSNS never has a bad dream and doesn’t have any trouble going to sleep or staying asleep. His snoring is the problem… for me. I hope your appointment doesn’t get cancelled and you get started adjusting to them. Maybe they will be a hit right off!

After my father left in early 1984, my mom had horrible nightmares every night. He said some horrible things to her and I was privy to those things, so I have no doubt they were on her mind as she drifted off to sleep. She was afraid to go to bed as she would dream of a tall man in a trenchcoat, a fedora pulled down to cover part of his face and wielding a big knife was chasing her. Just as he raised the knife, she’d wake up and give a blood-curdling scream, sit upright with a flashlight on and refuse to go back to sleep. I’d go comfort her and she was shaking like a leaf. It was an unsettling time and scary as well. Good luck with the hearing aids … a high school friend has Bluetooth hearing aids – she listens to music and TV through them.

That must have been scary for your Mom. Sounds like she was afraid of him. I’m trying to be hopeful about the hearing aids. So many negative things (cancelled appointments and such) have happened that I’m worried about it.

Yes, she was afraid of him after he flew into a rage one night. The dreams lasted for a long time, then subsided thankfully. She had deep circles under her eyes as she would fight going to sleep as she dreaded the stranger in the dream. As to the hearing aids, they have improved them so much now over the hearing aids from years ago. A neighbor got them and kept them in a very short while (the same day he got them) before putting them away in his dresser drawer forever. He said he couldn’t stand all the noise. His wife wasn’t happy as she thought she’d get rid of the noise as they had to shout to communicate and he put the radio, stereo and TV at full blast to hear it.

Oh my! Have you seen your father since then? I am hopeful they can adjust out the ambient noise better than on the last pair I tried.

No, neither of us saw him after January of 1984. Good luck with that noise level Kate. Have you heard Starbucks is slated to go out on strike for Red Cup Day (this Thursday)?

Our local SBs are not unionized so I doubt they will go on strike. The employees don’t seem to be disgruntled. It’s a good part-time job. There are a few long-term ones there with college students revolving in and out. I’m so sorry about your dad.

Thanks as to my dad. There is no love lost though. My friend Carol had some ancestry work done by a German genealogist and she asked him to track him down – as of four or five years ago he was alive, remarried and living in a tiny German town. He was not divorced from my mom, so he is a bigamist. I haven’t been to SB since my boss/I moved out on our own in 2003. He had a Caribou Coffee House near his home, so he used to buy beans and we ground them and brewed coffee at the office – not as robust as Starbucks IMHO.

I’ve tried some other coffee houses but SB is my favorite. It is robust. My husband doesn’t like it. It’s too strong for him.

A lot of people find it too strong. I like robust coffee – I don’t know if it is still like this, but they had a different robust coffee every day. The Italian roast was my favorite and I drank it black, no sugar. I didn’t care for the African coffee they brewed one day – that one I found to be bitter, but liked the rest of them.

I get a mocha everyday so I don’t know what their regular offerings are. Before mochas I always drank my coffee black, no sugar.

I like strong coffee – I used a French or Columbian roast instant … it is a robust cup of coffee and I use powdered international creamers. I like my coffee piping hot. They have an Italian sweet cream that is wonderful.

I like your clip-art picture. Cute. A small bathroom can be gorgeous, don’t you think? I like my little bathroom because I love the bright color and the cool sink and mirror. Also I like the carved Balinese mask on the wall. Okay, I have to admit–the sink is hard to keep shiny clean.
I’m reading a Stephen King novel: Mr. Mercedes. I even read it just before bed. So far it hasn’t led to any frightening dreams, at least not that I can remember.

I dream almost every night in those hours between 2-4 a.m. Sometimes I remember them and some not so much. They do wake me up early, very early, and I just give in and get up. Wearing hearing aids don’t bother me because of the benefit of not saying ‘can you repeat that, please.’ 🙂 I hope they work well for you.

I was going to suggest a dream catcher, too! I rarely remember dreams although I am reliably told (again and again) we all dream. I have been having odd little dreams in those moments between fully awake and sleep (or fully asleep and awake). I’ve been re-reading a series that is set around the calendar and they were having blizzards and I kept worrying about the expected blizzards. Then a few books later when it was spring I kept waking to thinking how it was nearly spring now and would be warming up. So strange, but brief, and not particularly scary dreams.
Best of luck with the hearing aids and the related appointments. Is there somewhere else you could go that you could switch to? I get multiple flyers for hearing aids for both my deceased parents and the elderly and possibly deceased gentleman who previously owned this house. Is it a message?

There are other places. My healthcare would recommend places where I could get a discount. Message? Can you hear me now? 🙂

I have spells where I have what I call “disconcerting” dreams almost every night, and the spells last anywhere from 5 consecutive nights up to 14 nights, then they stop for a while. When I wake up from one, I keep going back over what I remember, especially at the point where I wake up. I even send some of them in an email when I write to my bestie! Nothing scary but just “uncomfortable” in some emotional way.
I don’t think I could live through a renovation; maybe a little remodeling like painting the kitchen cabinets or something small like that.
Good luck with your hearing aids! I feel like I would find anything attached in my ear canal would bother me…but there was a time I couldn’t imagine putting my finger into my eye and leaving a contact lens behind it when I removed my finger, so…
Planning a renovation so far in advance at least means you’ll have some time to change your mind about anything you choose if you see something you like more! Have fun!

Not exactly anxious about the renovation but I want the end product. Current bath is full of mirrors which are near impossible to clean. I won’t miss those at all. Just a simple in front of the faucet will do. “Disconcerting” is a good word to describe it. It’s not like anything bad happens although I don’t remember it all but I feel uncomfortable about something.

Good luck with the hearing aids! It will seem like a new world to you! 🙂 At least, that’s how it felt like for me. Annnd I was soo glad to not have to keep asking “What?” to people! A lot of times I would give up and simply nod my head. I hope your appt doesn’t get rescheduled and that you really like them. But be aware that the noise of someone eating chips beside you an apple can be extra loud. My family has learned not to do that. LOL!

Ugh, I feel for you re. the false starts! I had the same with my Gynae appointment: on one occasion it was cancelled on the same day! It just seems wrong when they politely remind us that late cancellations cost them £200 or £900 (depending on which email you read).

I showed up for the appointment, waited 30 minutes before it was cancelled. They had scheduled me with someone who didn’t start until the afternoon. No one looked at the calendar and noticed. There were two other people there too who were turned away. There will be a discussion when I go.

Oh my God, that’s awful! Was there any compensatory comeback for you? Do you get to pull rank a little since you’re a paying customer? (That said, since our health service is taxpayer-funded, technically we are paying customers too.)

Nope. The soonest I could get a reschedule was a month out. They kept trying to give me evening appointments. I wanted a daytime appointment during the week. As it turned out I had to take a Saturday or it would have been pushed out farther. Not happy. If they can’t assure me that this won’t be happening going forward, I’ll ask for my money back before accepting the aids.

Good luck with the hearing aids. I hear (haha) it takes a while to adjust them JUST RIGHT but my sister can adjust hers with her phone (whatever happened to phones that just were phones?!). I can understand wanting to postpone any major renovation for a while and just kind of let things settle. It’s probably tempting to do now because all your other renos have been so successful BUT having some time off is nice too! Especially with the holidays coming.

We were planning on redoing our bathroom, but after having to repair kitchen, no one wants more work done on the house for a while. Also, it’s the bathroom with the only shower! Maybe next summer, when it’s hot and we can pretend we’re pioneers on the patio with the hose.
