Yikes! How did it get to be October? – It was July yesterday, wasn’t it? The older you are the faster it goes. Something inside of me is getting ready for hibernation season. We go out less, especially at night but still enjoy life.
A visit to relatives – I stopped to see my brother and SIL yesterday. They are having new refrigerator blues. It doesn’t fit quite right and a shoehorn won’t work. They are in flux with changing seasons – clothing, decorations (and apparently appliances!). I looked in the dining room and saw part of a collection of Barbies, all Halloween themed. I can’t even imagine what that entire collection looks like.
Another one – I got a photo from my niece. She and her husband (mostly her husband) have a nice garden. He ramped up the pumpkin crop this year and she sent me a photo. Another yikes!
As for me and the beloved husband – We are hunkering down. We haven’t started to put the summer stuff away (and I am so not ready to get the snow blower ready!). Maybe we’ll start if we get some nice days this week. It’s getting dark earlier and we are using the deck less. It’s time.
I love a rainy night – (so does Eddie Rabbit!) but there are limits! We are in a weather pattern that looks like 40 days and nights of rain. Today is predicted to be beautiful but we will be back to rain midweek. There is something peaceful about it and it’s a natural excuse to not do outdoor work! Maybe we should be building an ark. What is a cubits? (To all my rain-starved readers, I’d love to box some up and send it to you!)
So how was your week?

Wait – what? There are Halloween Barbies?
I hope things dry out for you a little bit – too much rain is as much of a downer as too little!

I’ve found I’m woefully behind on reading posts-so sorry for the delay. I can so relate to your brother & SIL’s fridge story. Yesterday a new feridge was delivered and let me tell you it took nearly an act of God to shoehorn that baby in. My kitchen is very small and dog legged in shape so moving a smaller than normal sized fridge in is more than adventure. They practically destroyed house and then left for me to deal with returning everything to its place. And now the dispenser doesn’t work. Argh. My sympathies to your family. Why are things like applicances so doggone complicated more?

We’ve learned a lot about door depth and hinging and clearance. More than I want to know! Hope everything works out for you.

Thanks. 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 I hope so too. I knew the clearances would be tight but think the delivery guys didn’t want to finagel or spend the time to do it slow and steady.

No they don’t. They guy who delivered my brother’s fridge didn’t want to finesse anything.

That’s a crazy number of Barbies, I would much rather have the pumpkins. Yeah I can’t imagine that a fridge would move much into space with a shoehorn! Send rain just not snow ok??

I love the idea of you manning a snow blower, even though I’m assuming that’s a chore fro your Mister.
I think you’re right though how, as we age, the time flies as if it’s cut in half.
We’re having heavenly weather that of course won’t last as if it’s last call for shorts and a casual, unhurried stroll. The streets are packed, with everyone it seems eating ice cream and lemon ice.
At your old place, you’d be putting away the pond. It was always a sign for me of the change of seasons. Spring, summer and then fall.
Nice list. 🙂

I haven’t seen the Barbie movie, but read a few reviews and articles about it, and I’m wondering, Where is Midge? Is there a Midge in the movie? When I was five, my parents gave me Barbie and Midge for Christmas, and I never, ever hear a peep about Midge.

I am sorry I am late here! House projects going beserk have kept me distracted and weary. Totally in sympathy for your brother and sis-in-law with their fridge. Our three year old microwave shot craps a little over a week ago. We held our breath until the last second it went in. We had a great installer and he worked some magic. Not the same story for the peeps painting our garage floor putting some kind of fancy finish on it. A three day job is going on three weeks. I told Jerry no more projects… can’t we just stop? Then we went out and bought a new chair, an area rug and a new kitchen table. Palm to forehead.
I had one Barbie. I always left her laying around without her clothes on. I think my Mom was a little worried. I’d rather have played with horses.
I’m just hoping for a hurricane free October and November!

Their fridge problem may be worked out. The appliance store is willing to trade with one that fits. We just bought 2 new carpets. I know the overwhelming feeling. Need a rest. Fingers crossed for a good Nov-Dec for you.

Carpets are ok. They work but are not outstanding. At this stage I’ll take that. I use to shop and shop until I found the exact thing I loved. No energy for that these days and I’m not sure it exists.

I’m as surprised as you are that it’s already October. I love scary Halloween decorations, though, so I’m happy to see people decorating their houses.
I had a work friend who was nuts for Barbie (and still is, I guess, judging from her Facebook posts). She has a whole room in her home dedicated to all things Barbie. Me? Never owned one… but I still want to see the movie. 🙂

Barbies came after my time. I don’t have any. They were after my SIL’s time too but she loves all things “doll.”

I had one Barbie, that I bought with my own money. I cannot fathom that many Barbies, on a theme, staring at me– and how much they’d cost.

They were collected over many years most likely at doll shows or flea markets. I’m not a collector so I don’t share that interest.

We had that endless rain thing a few weeks ago and since then we’ve been blessed with sun…..and leaves turning….and sweater weather – all of which make me smile. My husband and I have more conversations about time passing quickly and things we “need” to do – a sign that we have plenty of time left to enjoy things so DO IT. We will.
Hugs, Pam

Focusing on time isn’t a good thing. I’ve already outlived both my parents and the beloved husband his father. His mom lived well into her 90s. I remind myself that we have great health and good joints. So far we can walk unassisted and enjoy a lot of activities some of our friends cannot. Always good to focus on the good stuff you have….like ginger cats!

Thanks for the Eddie Rabbit song. A nice reminder of an oldie but goody.
Yikes! So many Barbies. I was talking to some friends this weekend about cleaning out our moms’ houses. One said she was expecting a good sale of her mom’s doll collection, but they didn’t go. They’re starting to go out of style with some people. Who knew that dolls would go out of style. My nephew’s 5-year-old daughter seems to have no interest. But maybe that’s just her.
I haven’t started putting summer stuff away yet either.

I’m not sure the young kids are as interested in dolls as older women. My SIL is a collector and has several different collections of different stuff. She has an extensive “Gone with the Wind” collection including plates, photos and figurines. I’m not much of a collector (unless you count cats!)

And it’s later and later for it to get light in the morning – sigh. We had a Summer-like weekend, almost 80 degrees and it continues like that through Wednesday, then rain and cooler. That’s a lot of Barbies and just for Halloween! When I still played with Barbie dolls, there was one Barbie and one of each of her friends, Ken, Midge and Skipper.

Barbies came out after I was out of the doll stage so I never had one. My SIL is a collector.

I don’t know how it got to be October either, and I’ve never seen a large Halloween Barbie collection before. It’s definitely getting darker earlier, and it’s certainly almost time to switch out the lawn mower for the snow blower. We’ve had more than our share of rain, but this week is going to be rain free and sunny.

We to have to deal with our patio furniture with the onset of winter rains. Last year we delayed well into December and all of the cushions got moldy! I remember when the contractor was moving our new kitchen appliances into place, and I held my breath they fit! I can only imagine how your brother and SIL feel about that fridge. – Marty

It’s just a smidge too big. When we bring in the cushions I let them dry out inside for a few days before we pack them in plastic and store. We can get mold too.

I don’t know if it is an “age“ thing, but I’ve had the feeling The last couple of years that the days go by so slowly and the years go by so quickly. I like rain, but I could do without the downpours and gusty wind. What I told myself and others is that at least we don’t have to shovel rain. I, too, I am ready to start hibernating, but what I am hearing is that we will have a dryer and warmer winter then what is perceived as normal for our area. I also like snow, when it falls in 1 or 2 inch increments and then melts away before it starts to get ugly. I also kind of like the idea of being a homebound because there is a lot of snow and more is falling and nobody is going to be going anywhere. Que sera sera, whatever will be, will be, I guess…

We got a short rain shower yesterday, which was nice, but I will take all the rain you care to box! Cool September, which is unusual for us, and so of course it’s supposed to get up into the 80s now that it is October. We have water damage/ kitchen demo/ reconstruction going on, so I’m skipping the fall decorations until that’s over. Boo.

Not much rain predicted here until Friday showers, but I’ll take any that comes along. We had the lawn aerated and reseeded late last week when the soil was good and soaked, and a little rain to help those seeds along won’t bother me at all.
