Another weird and hectic week – We have a houseguest. Everything was going fine until our cat Gus decided to get ill. Seriously ill. Tossed all plans out the window and brought in a huge level of stress. After 3-1/2 hours at the emergency vet, he’s fine now but he sure knows how to throw a monkey wrench into plans.
The grands are coming – We will swap out houseguests as the current one leaves, and the granddaughters are coming this week. They are on a “college tour.” How did that happen. They were just little young’uns and I was buying them brightly colored clothes! Now they are grown. Yikes!
The garden club – This year I joined the local garden club. I couldn’t have picked a worse year to do that. We have been busy with house projects (still!) so I don’t have time to be active. I would have enjoyed this when I was living in my old house. I’m also at a point in life where my interest in gardening is limited by my waning energy. Wrong time for this activity.
I wasn’t invited – I took a walk down by the stream near my house. There was a group of deer obviously having a party. I don’t usually see deer in the middle of the day. They looked at me warily debating if they should take off. I picked up my step and walked on by. They resumed as soon as I was out of sight. Maybe I was the entertainment. Perhaps a cartwheel was in order!
The quiet is looming – After this week the houseguests and parties will be done for a while. We will enter a period of peace and quiet. I both love it and miss the commotion. Wish I could bottle some of the comraderie to pull out a dose when I need it. Just a tiny dose!
So how was your week?

Wow – that’s a lot of socializing! How are the cats doing with it?

Sasha not so good but the rest are ok.

Aw! Poor Sasha! Hope Gus is keeping her company 🙂

Sasha got weird when Gus went to the emergency vet. They haven’t been canoodling like they used to. Could be from the overwhelming amount of people we’ve had lately too. After this week, we will be normal (or as normal as we get) and hopefully the canoodling will start again!

I hope so! You don’t want any star-crossed lovers 🙂

I can definitely relate to your garden club dilemma. Recently I’ve gotten involved in one too many “entanglements” that have me wondering what I was thinking. “It seemed like a good idea at the time” kind of thing. 🙄 I hope Gus is well soon. – Marty

Gus is good now. Still on meds but acting normal (or as normal as he gets). When I lived in Wilmington, DE, I got involved in a few things. I was in a garden club there that was a little less active and a little smaller. I was in it one year and they wanted me to be president. I was like “what?” I moved (not because of that) and was much more careful about commitments. This club has 100 members so I was hoping to skirt around the edges until I had more time. Now I find I’m just not as interested. Won’t join a book club because I barely have time to read what I want to read let alone what someone else thinks I should.

Same here about a book club. Plus I’m a slow reader and I know I’d feel rushed to finish (and thus not enjoy the book as much!).

Oh my – poor Gus and poor you worrying about him – we hope he’s fine now and will be sending a big bag of POTP that he stays fine. Tough to juggle sick cats and company! All your activity makes me realize what a quiet life we really lead here even though sometimes it feels like having ONE thing to do per day is “too much” for me!!
Hugs, Pam

One thing a day is perfect. It’s juggling multiples that makes me crazy. Toss in a sick cat and I’m bonkers. He is fine now but I worry about a recurrence. Timing is everything. We couldn’t get our usual dinner reservation time so we were going later. Had we gone earlier, he would have been in agony until we got home and I wouldn’t have been able to get him in the local ER. Everything happens for a reason.

You’re right about everything happening for a reason….sometimes it’s a WHILE before we find out the reason but it’s always there!!

The reason popped up fast this time!

Poor Gus. I will keep good thoughts for him. Maybe he thinks its his job to keep you on your toes! Here’s to hoping you have a smoother week.

It’s usually Gracie that keeps me on my toes. Maybe Gus was filling in for her.

Summers can be so busy. But we do want to take advantage of the good weather before it’s gone. If only we had the energy to get it all done.
How fun to see the deer having a party, and how nice that they didn’t run away!

I didn’t actually see them. Only the remnant poop. It must have been a wild one!

Sorry Gus was sick. I am glad you were able to get him seen by a vet even though it was a wait. The closest emergency vet to us is an hour away and the sign in the lobby says depending on what is wrong, it could take up to 24 hours to be seen. How fun to have your granddaughters visiting. I am seeing now with my great nieces how quickly time passes.

It was. He’s a quiet cat and he was screaming in pain. Terrifying.

I would love to see deer along the pathway. A fellow blogger and her husband just moved from Connecticut to North Carolina to be closer to their grandchildren. Their condo is in a wooded area and her first post at their new home shows a deer on the porch looking in the door wall. 🙂 As I await the treecutters to cut down the two trees and remove all the burned bushes and a smaller tree from the downed wire fire in December, I ponder what to do with the backyard … I would like the perennial/butterfly garden again, but I’d wait ’til I’m retired, but do I really want the hassle, climate change issues … drought versus torrential rain (both what we’ve had the last month) … more and more I’m learning toward grass and visit the Botanical Gardens for my “flower fix”.

Tough decision. I like a little flowery stuff but not near as much as I had when I was younger.

It is … climate change has a lot to do with it. I lost all my flowers and some bushes (all which were planted in 1985, so well established and the right zone). I have a while to dwell on it. Like you, getting older and easier is nicer.

It’s the calm before the storm here. We will have brother and s-i-l all next week. We enjoy them both very much, but they are louder and more active than we tend to be. It will be a whirlwind, then peace and quiet. Both are good, but my introverted self needs bigger doses of the quiet.

I get it. I like small doses of whirlwind with calming quiet in between! Have a good time and you can rest after they leave!

No house guests here, but I am meeting two friends this week for coffee and lunch. Then I’m back to my introverted self. Hope the grands have a good visit and tour.

The grands can amuse themselves. They are talking about going to the local park for a day. They won’t be here long enough to get bored. I have to connect with some friends but I put all that scheduling on hold until after the family part is done!

I love the quiet. We are in a quiet time and I want it to last. It’s very good to hear that Gus has fully recovered. I can’t believe the granddaughters are scoping out colleges!

I like quiet time. The grands are going into their senior year in high school. It’s surreal. Gus is good. Worried that it may happen again though so I’ll keep an eye on him. He’s still on meds at this point though.

It always seems to be ‘feast or famine’ doesn’t it? My calendar has been like that lately. Nothing for the longest time (and quite lovely at that) and now it seems like there’s something going every day for the foreseeable future. Note to self stop trying to catch up on overdue healthcare appointments-spread them out for starters. Enjoy some much needed peace. Here’s to good health for all the kitties too.

After this week, I’m in a lull for two weeks. Then there are some appointments again and probably some social things too.

It would be nice if you could space out those social obligations–but they always seem to come in waves. Sometimes tsunamis! Glad Gus is better.

Yes, clumps of unending activity than a black hole of nothingness.

I’m like you, and when things are super busy I miss the peace and quiet and when they’re quiet I sometimes wish for a little bit more activity. It’s always nice when things are just a little bit busy…not too much…and there’s space in the day to do nothing. There should be days like that starting in the fall. Summer is just nuts with pet sitting and foster kitties.

Getting the right formula for people to quiet time is tough. Family is out of state so when they come in it’s full steam ahead and when they are not here, it’s blank.

We had a pretty boring week here. Our mom worked, we napped, and we had to force her to do some blogging for us. We’re glad Gus is okay!

It’s amazing how fast kids grow from tiny tots to college age!
It’s also a reminder that WE are not quite as YOUNG as we once were. 😀
Have fun during their visit!
