Happy birthday to my niece! – We are close in age. We grew up as friends rather than aunt and niece. She is celebrating at the beach. Perfect place! I always wished my birthday was in a warm month. Have one on me!
What? – I get a kick out of automated responses. Techies have developed a sense of humor. Google has fun characters on their opening page celebrating some obscure fact. Microsoft says “Oops! Something happened! The page you wanted isn’t here!” I had a new one this week. My healthcare was having an issue with their website. The page posted “It’s not you, it’s us!” Gosh, it was almost like dating again!
Goodbye sweet shoes – I did another sweep of possessions to donate. This time I hit my beloved shoes. I had already gotten rid of all that didn’t fit, weren’t favorites or weren’t comfortable, but I kept some from my working days because they were gorgeous. I took them out and fondled them lovingly. Some of them were 2-1/2 to 3 inches high. The beloved husband said I could only wear them if I used a walker and sadly that’s true. I wear sneakers every day for support and stability. I have a few sandals and low shoes for fancy but if I get invited to a prom I’ll have to buy a pair of new orthopedic spiffy shoes. That was a sad goodbye. Another transition.
A pleasant treat – I’m a big fan of ice cream. I buy vanilla because that’s what the beloved husband likes. Occasionally we’ll go for soft serve. For me the best is from McDonald’s (don’t judge). It’s a reasonable price and the right amount. This week we went to a high-priced ice cream joint. They had black raspberry soft serve. OMG! It was heaven. It’s seasonal so I’ll try to get there again before pumpkin bumps it out.
Scams – I got that scam pop up where your screen freezes and flashes lights saying to call right away that you’ve been hacked and someone is stealing your information. It’s my own fault. I was looking for a picture for my blog and I must have clicked on the wrong thing. It took me a while to remember how to get rid of it, but I did. Lately I’ve been getting emails from people I don’t know. It has my name, address and email address. No message. I don’t know what the point is. Are they trying to tell me that my info is on the dark web? The info they had can be easily found by googling and a little tooling around. Those people need a life.
So how was our week?

Don’t you just love it when the hubby says something brutally true?

I actually had McD’s ice cream yesterday, and it was quite tasty. I took a large bag of items to donate this past week. My shoes with heels went with the corporarate outfits which I donated to a women’s employment network when I stopped working. If they are not comfortable and stable, I just don’t wear them anymore. I aged out of what’s trendy. 🙂

I hate cleaning out my closet these days. There are always clothes I love but can’t pull off at my age anymore. I should have worn them a lot more than I did. What special occasion was I saving them for? Who knows, but I don’t go anywhere now and wear workout clothes only. What a shame. Should have taken your shoes out for one last spin. Maybe I will get all dressed up and sit around the house in something one last time before I toss it.

I felt like that when I donated my double-breasted navy Ralph Lauren blazer. I got on sale and loved wearing it. When I hadn’t worn it for over 10 years it was time to say goodbye. High heels are hard to take for one last spin without killing myself! 🙂

yes yes yes… the best is from golden seagull… I’m a sneakerette now too, but I need a while before I can give my beloved heels away… I tried them some days ago and I could not even imagine that I wore THIS!!!! for hours …. now we have it… I’m an ole bat..

Hi, Kate – Great minds think alike. I am also making my way cupboard to cupboard, room to room, with the goal of rehoming items I no longer need. I haven’t gotten to my shoes yet, but I will be there soon.
And I totally agree. McDonald’s soft serve is the best. Right size, right price…and you don’t even need to leave your car! ❤

Happy Birthday to your niece! Sorry about the shoes, that is a nice pair. I am the same height as my hubby, 5 ft 10 so I was never into heels. That soft serve sounds good. Have a nice week.

You are tall! I used to be 5’4″ so heels gave me stature especially for work. Now I’m a lot closer to 5’2″ or maybe less and can’t wear heels. Funny how that works.

I remember those shoes and “having” to have high heels when I was already 5′ 9″ tall. What was I thinking? I wear ballerina-type of Dearform slippers in the house. Friday I was walking and something didn’t feel right. Thinking a sunflower seed dropped into my slippers when filling my “park friends feed bag” I flipped it over and the sole had bent in half – thank goodness I didn’t wipe out on that! So I had another pair waiting in the wings – black velvet-like material, which will show the dust, but they were on sale and only color they had left when I bought them. So, I put them on – they were uncomfortable. Sitting down, I slip out of them. Who slips out of slippers? Did the manufacturer scrimp and make them smaller, or did my heavy, wide, walking shoes expand my feet a little more? If my mom and I were out on errands or had an A&W coney and onion rings, we’d often stop at McDonald’s for their soft-serve ice cream – when they first started selling cones, they were a quarter!

I can’t wear slippers. There is not enough support. I’ve tried ballet type shoes and it was not comfortable. McDonald’s has good vanilla soft serve but it’s not longer a quarter!

I loved the Minnetonka moosekin moccasins and wore them for years – they wore like iron. I had light-colored ones for “slippers” and dark-colored ones to wear outside with jeans or shorts The last paid I bought were very uncomfortable – I got them from Amazon as my mom and pop shoe store owner retired and closed the store. I ordered my regular size and I looked at the reviews there afterward and everyone said the same thing. Too bad – they were great shoes. Back then for a quarter, you got a huge serving!

Couldn’t wear Minnetonkas too because of lack of support. I have always had flat feet so I had to have arch support built into the shoe or I had to add them. Loved the look!

I see- they did tend to get a bit sloppy the longer you had them, but so comfy. Yes, we wore lots of shoes back in the day – those Buffalo sandals too. (Like I needed to be towering over everyone at six feet tall wearing them!)

I couldn’t wear Jellies either. Remember those rubbery plastic things?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes, the Jellies were a really hard plastic – I figured they’d make ridges and blisters so I never tried them. I’ve never worn Crocs either because I thought I’ll either fall off or out of them as they look like they fit kind of sloppy.

Can’t wear Crocs either. My feet are too narrow and yes they are sloppy and floppy.

I too have gotten that DON’T DELETE OR ELSE SCREEN. It scared the hell out of me the first time. I learned to just shut the computer down and reboot. Scams could age a girl.
Favorite line…Macdonalds…don’t judge. Got a good, much needed giggle there.
As for those stilts you donated to charity. My ears popped just looking at them.
Happy September Kate. And I won’t judge. 🙂

Shutting down didn’t clear it but I did eventually get it cleared! I love heels. I think they dress up any outfit. It’s been decades since I could wear them comfortably. Youth is definitely wasted on the young especially when you are talking about feet!

I’m a vanilla girl when it comes to ice cream. I can add fruit sauces and/or chocolate sauce if I want something different but vanilla is my go to. Aww, yes, the ole platforms & heels. Sigh…my feet hurt 95% of the time anymore, no shoes are comfortable anymore. I think I’m headed for surgery which I hope will resolve some of the issues and let me keep some of the cuter flats. 🤞🏼

Me too. Love vanilla ice cream. I like putting it in the microwave for a few seconds so it’s like soup. I know. But it’s so great when you can slurp it. 🙂

I love vanilla too! I have toasted almond sauce (it’s for coffee) and it’s fabulous on vanilla ice cream. I have to wear sneakerish shoes these days. I never think flats are cute on my feet.

I’m sorting through summer clothing and shoes to see what I want to put away or donate. I get in the mood to declutter when the seasons change. I usually buy ice cream from the grocery store, but there is a real ice cream shop close by, so once in awhile I’ll treat myself to a chocolate milkshake. The black raspberry sounds good!

We usually get grocery store ice cream too but it’s always vanilla. There aren’t a lot of flavors that I don’t tire of in a big container. (I don’t even know how much they are these days. They used to be half gallons but they downsized!)

I like to switch between plain chocolate and heavenly hash (chocolate/vanilla with nuts), so it’s a nice change. I get the small containers because it’s just me.

If I get a flavor, I get a small container. My husband likes vanilla and mint chocolate chip (which I don’t like at all).

I’ve been slowing getting rid of my uncomfortable shoes too. I never was one for super high heels, but even a mid-heel no longer works for me. I have noticed that tennis-type shoes are getting more fashionable. I think many women – even younger ones – are realizing that high heels are oppressive.
That black raspberry soft serve sounds yummy. My go-to at home is the store’s brand lemon cheesecake ice cream.

I get those same spammy emails that have my name and email address also. It’s disconcerting, but I’ve learned to just delete and move on. Hopefully the malware subscription I have is protecting me. My older sister just recently lamented how dispiriting is for her to get all dressed up for some occasion, and then have to slip on her sneakers because they’re the only reliable shoes she can wear. I never judge what ice cream people like! – Marty

I was looking at my pumps with heels just this week, thinking about donating them somewhere. I tried on a couple pairs and was amazed that I could have walked on them. I’m with you wearing sneakers now.
I get those weird *screen freezes, lights flashes* scams, too. But here’s the weirdest thing: I find them most often when I go back to some of my earliest post and click on a link. It’s like the scams have been lurking back there waiting to snare me.

That is weird. I clicked on a photo of a puppy and that triggered my screen going crazy. Shoes, sigh. I was a big shoe person in my youth. I loved fashion. I couldn’t comfortably walk in most of the (probably all) shoes I donated.

The very best ice cream I’ve ever had was blueberry cheesecake that we had on a vacation in Virginia. The ice cream shop was right behind the house we rented there, and we’re going back again in October. We brought some home last year, and if I had a bigger freezer I’d bring home enough to last for months.

I’ve never had that kind but I’m not usually adventurous. When I worked (at a job a long time ago) I was across from a store that sold wonderful ice cream. It was occasionally my lunch. Tin roof was my favorite there.
