The best thing about being unemployed is spending time with the beloved husband. We don’t spend a lot of day time together but we will do things like a quick shopping trip or breakfast. When we drive in his car, he always has WIP on in the morning with Angelo Cataldi. This is a sports radio station. I am not a huge sports fan but I love this show. First of all, this guy is a huge animal benefactor so he already gets big points from me. Then he is so passionate about sports that you can’t help getting all involved. On top of that, he has this bizarre Boston accent that is just wild! He does biting but humorous commentary but his claim to fame (besides a Pulitzer prize nomination) is the Wing Bowl. That is the fund-raiser he conducts each year where contestants eat obscene amounts of hot wings at 6 a.m.
If you live in the Philadelphia area, you would know that there is a huge controversy going on with the Philadelphia Eagles football team. After spending tons of money on talent for this season, the team has a dismal 4-8 record. They have lost all but one home game. Football fans around here are fanatics. Some want the coach fired. That is, some do and some don’t. Whose fault is it when the team doesn’t win? Is it the coach? Or is it the players? Coach Andy Reid takes responsibility for the losses and says his guys are committed to do well. The players say it isn’t the coach’s fault that they are not coming together.
Personally I don’t care. I am appalled at what an athlete makes these days. Good grief, it’s not like they invented a cure for cancer or solved world peace.
As if that isn’t enough controversy in the local sports world, Penn State has been exploding because of child abuse accusations of a former assistant coach. As a result, the highly popular head coach was fired. Penn State lovers take their football seriously so it has become a topic that you don’t talk about, similar to politics, religion, weight gain or how much sex you really get.
I love listening to the haggling especially since I am not committed to a side and, best of all, I get to spend time with the beloved husband.

I think it’s great that you can share this with your husband. Mine draws me into sports as well. And I’m equally appalled by the salaries people get for kicking, catching, and passing a ball. They have great skills, but they’re not really million-dollar skills in my opinion.

Ahhh! Someone who disagrees! Football fans are passionate people! (At least he doesn’t discuss the Packers.)

That made me laugh. Actually my husband is better looking but you will rarely find him out of jeans and t-shirt.
