This is my walking trail. It’s still beautiful in a very fall way!

Can you believe this? – I get lots of dumb email. Most of it is caught by the spam filter but once in a while something gets through. I received a notice of a class action suit again Godiva Chocolates. Seriously? Against a chocolate company? It piqued my curiosity so I opened it up. They are being sued because “they say” the chocolates are made in Belgium but maybe that’s not right. Who cares? It’s chocolate and it’s good. We are “sue happy” people these days.

It’s not just Godiva – I also received notice of a Zoom class action suit. So if I was on Zoom between certain dates, I can join it and receive $5. Woohoo.

Still on retail – Aside from acquiring cats, retail is one of my favorite therapies. It’s as good as Xanax. This past week I received a catalog through the mail from a woman’s clothing store. Figuring I needed a treat, I paged through, anxious to find something fun and usable. I can always use another sweat shirt. I found some lovely sweaters. I went on line and they were sold out. I tried another sweater, same thing. They were sold out of almost everything in the catalog. The catalog was new and wasn’t sitting around for weeks. It’s cruel to send someone a catalog of beautiful things that can’t be purchased. My pocketbook was happy though.

I hate a busy week – One thing I’ve enjoyed during the pandemic is an uncluttered calendar. This coming week is cluttered. Meeting up with friends twice (that’s a fun thing) and a series of doc appointments (just routine) spread over the week. Every. Single. Day. Some of these appointments were made six months ago. I don’t know how they all end up in the weeks before Christmas. Next year I’m declaring December a “No Doc” month.

Disappointment again – Over the last few weeks the forecasters predicted one unseasonably warm day each week. Really unseasonable, like bumping close to 70 degrees. I love that kind of weather. It is not meant to be. Each time the “warm” day was rainy, cloudy or windy. It was not a nice day to be out. Yesterday was in the mid-60s here but rainy and windy. Disappointing but I was glad it wasn’t cold and snowy. I don’t want snow until AFTER my kitchen renovation is done. The supply chain is so delicate that anything can cause a delay. A bird farting in the tree can delay something critical.

  2. I love your walking trail – very nice! I used to get a lot of catalogs and then got a service called Catalog Choice and they will stop the hard copy catalogs – I only get “Swiss Colony” catalog now. I liked looking at all those catalogs but when they started having online sites, I just switched to online for browsing. I like checking out the Amazon reviews for pros and cons as Amazon sells almost every product or most clothing on their site. We have another bout of high wind coming overnight and through the day tomorrow – 45 to 50 mph winds, not as bad as last Saturday.

      • Ha ha – that’s true. I get asked questions on batteries I bought for my camera and about my flip phone … all really techie questions. I have to read the phone manual yet, so I can’t answer and the batteries … you buy what the camera says to buy. People want to use them in a different camera.

  3. I really relate to your aversion to a busy week! I have a few appointments, too, and I find that I resent them, which is a bit ridiculous. It feels to me like I’ve lost some of my resilience, or at least recognized that I physically and emotionally respond well to living a quieter life. I don’t exactly feel like I’ve aged, but when I hear myself say these things, I do sound like a stodgy old lady! LOL!

  4. Talking about cruelty in catalogues, I’d like to know why suddenly some companies no longer tell me what a piece of clothing is made of. Or how tall a lamp is. I need details, so then I have to get online… often to find that the fabric won’t work, or the lamp is so small mice use it in their living rooms. But these companies never have any problem telling me how much an item costs. 🤨

    • I found that too when I was looking at a furniture catalog. No details in the catalog. I was looking for a small scale dining table and on-line there was no way I could filter for that. I had to open every table to see the dimensions. Also, some women’s clothing companies stopped reviews. I depend on those for sizing comments. Boogers.

    • Amazingly, we’ve done ok foodwise. We get take-out once a week and the rest is from meals I froze before the construction started. We’ve eaten well. Not near as much pizza as I thought! 🙂 I swear if a bird farts in a 5 mile radius, something will go wrong or get delayed. 😦

    • Supposedly if you were on during a specific time frame, your information may have been shared. I was on zoom a handful of times and now I wish I would have worn costumes just for fun. Maybe talked with an accent too!

  9. Don’t worry about birds farting in trees. “Birds aren’t real” according to a conspiracy theory. It’s widespread, but it’s a joke.

    No doc December is a great idea.

    I need an in-person retail therapy day. I looked on Nordstrom’s site today, and the styles were disappointing. When I go shopping, I’ll try somewhere else.

    • Macy’s was my favorite spurge. Our local one had a huge selection in all price ranges. Then they went to a different sales concept. There is a lot less of what I like and a lot of racks of mixed goods that are marked down. There are fewer displays and more chaotic disorder. Doesn’t make me want to shop so I’m guessing I’m out of the target selling group. It feels like a divorce. Without places like this (and they are a dying breed) a trip to the mall includes Starbucks and the pizza place and not much else. Those cute little boutiques don’t cater to my age group either. Now I’m down to scented candles!

      • Oh, Kate! It’s sad. It looks to me like they’re designing for the sloppiness of a pandemic, which is fine, I suppose. But when we get out of the pandemic, I hope they can find a way to make clothes both comfortable and beautiful in all age ranges. Before Macy’s we had the Bon Marche, and before Nordstrom, we had Frederick and Nelson. Such fun shopping in those days.

    • When I was younger, retail therapy was my go to medication for a stressful day. I didn’t have to buy anything. I could try some clothes and shoes on and be happy! I always thought I would have been happy in the fashion design world but it’s a cruel business.

    “Unseasonably warm” winter days are a nice break – how come we can never get a 40 degree day in the midst of the 90s in July ?

    • You are right about the catalogs. I didn’t think they’d sell out the day they hit the mailboxes. Perhaps it was supply issues again. A cool day in summer has been very rare (to non-existent) in the last few years. I always appreciate a break in the heat.

  14. I wish I’d been a weather forecaster instead of someone in the legal field. It would have been such a joy to be wrong most of the time and get well paid for screwing up the forecast. Talk about a cushy job! And with all the doppler radio gadgets, you’d think they could have a better record of weather predictions. Retail therapy is overrated during the pandemic. It’s a guarantee to save the wallet while disappointing the soul. Happy Sunday.

  15. Sounds like the kitchen reno irritation is reaching out to life in general. Don’t let that happen! There is so much to enjoy and be thankful for…like your beautiful trail to walk, a new home, and kitchen being made just the way you want it.

  19. It was up to 60 here yesterday, but damaging winds came in late afternoon and lasted through the evening. I was lucky with only a few branches down. Others had power outages and downed trees. That’s not nice tempting you with merchandise in the catalog you can’t get. Hope you have better luck next time. I love your walking trail.

  20. “A bird farting in the tree”… flump. Talk about cruelty with catalogs. I received one of the coolest catalogs this week; I used to get it when we lived in Missouri. Cruel to send a catalog with, sweaters, cool jeans, paddock boots, all fall and winter clothing to someone who loves fall and winter but lives in a true tropical climate… swamp.
    Your walking trail is glorious… a bit of heaven.

  21. Definitely give yourself an entire month of “no appointments” in December. I postponed hair cut appointment\, mani/pedi appointment and even a routine check-up at doc’s appointment that all should have been in December. It’s my first year of doing so, and I have to say, it’s nice not having to answer to anyone but myself (for you, that would exempt hubby and cats, though). If I feel like doing something, with or without someone, I make it happen rather spontaneously. Otherwise, it’s Amazon Prime movies, reading on my Kindle, feeding myself when I want to eat, and finally beginning to sort through three bins of craft items that haven’t seen the light of day for several years. I wish I could do this once a quarter instead of once a year!

    • I was going to get a professional haircut (mostly I cut myself) but decided not to. Too much other stuff going on and for me haircuts are full of anxiety. Despite going to the same person for many years, sometimes it’s just not right. Last time she didn’t taper the back enough and I sported the mushroom look until I had a chance to fix it.

  23. In our semi-retirement I find I don’t like too many things on the calendar on any given day. I used to have tons of things on the calendar, every single day, weekends included. Now I’m a bit of a slug, and love not having the pressure of lots of things to do/places to be each day. Getting lazy in my old age.

  24. Your walking trail is beautiful. Maybe the catalog was printed ages ago . . . and delivery was held up for months? 😆

    We had a good week. Nice weather. No devastating tornadoes tearing our town apart. No deaths or serious illnesses. No political hassles. And a few fun things ~ a holiday walk on the island (complete with adult beverages), an “Old Florida Christmas” at Manatee Historic Village, a beach walk, and Raclette for dinner one night. YUM!

  26. Meeting friends is a good thing. No snow is a good thing too. We took the dog for a 10 minute walk that felt wonderful. I am trying to look on the positive side of life.
