After a week of meds, Gus’s ear is much better but it’s not completely gone. There is still black gook in there. I will continue to clean and put drops in but not twice a day. We’ve both been traumatized. He’s a strong and difficult cat to medicate.
On one occasion, I caught him as he was eating dinner. Snagged him but he wiggled and he ended up in his food dish with wet cat food all over his belly. Yes I got the ear drops in but he was totally freaked and spent the night cleaning his fur. Now he’s a cautious eater always thinking someone will blindside him. I stopped catching him at dinner time and found that it was easier after dinner when he was in his food coma. He’s much slower then.
A funny thing happened though. His girlfriend started to eat out of the same dish. I wondered if she was being an opportunist or if she was making it difficult to impossible to catch him at dinnertime. I think it was collusion. Cats take care of their own. In the meantime, today Sasha is going to the vet for her shots. She will need consoling when she gets back. I’m sure Gus is up to the challenge.
RC send both cats her sympathies. (As staff I hate ear washes and meds – it is a battle…unless Sr Staff does it…he is the cat ear doc whisperer…ow they can be so cooperative with him…I’m sure it’s a cat directed slap at me HAHA)

ears and eyes are the worst to medicate!

It sounds like collusion to me, Kate. You’d better be careful. If they can strategize their moves they could become quite oppositional. 🙂 Have a wonderful fall weekend.

Cats definitely take care of each other. I hope that infection clears soon.

They do and I hope it clears up fast too.

I think it is collusion too – yes, Sasha said “let’s gang up on the Peep so she doesn’t blindside you Gus.” I also think Gus will forget about his ear issues to console his lady friend.

Yes indeed! She had her shots today and when she got home she whined to him. He washed her face and told her everything would be ok. I need someone like that! Maybe without the face wash.

Yes, sympathy is sometimes hard to get these days. Proof that whining works!

Poor Gus. Can’t even have a quiet meal with his lady without someone taking advantage of it. But I do understand. Teddy and Jack are sweet cats that become monsters when things aren’t to their liking.

Gus is laid back and easy going except for medications.

Churu and all the other liquid/pate treats work miracles in keeping cats’ attention focused on THEM and not on whatever else is happening at the time like other meds, ear cleaning, etc. Ted loves that stuff!

Hope it doesn’t have calories!

I’m sure it does……but a few calories if it helps you give a cat a needed med is a small-ish price to pay!

I hope the worst is over for both you and Gus.

Aww, poor Gus. That must have been a traumatic dinner for him. Hopefully he’ll forgive you soon. Paws crossed his ear will continue to improve so the drops will become necessary. Have a great weekend.

It was traumatic for both of us. He was making love to my leg at 3 a.m. this morning so he’s not completely off of me.

Umm, hopefully that kind of affection is ok. 😆

I ended up scooting him off the bed. At 3 a.m. I am not interested in having biscuits all over my legs.

Guess sometimes the ‘knead’ is greater than the occasion. LOL I’ll be here all week. 🤣

It’s so hard to medicate some cats. Sounds like you did well though!

Yes and Sasha was in today for vaccines and a check up. She gained 4 lbs! Now I have to cut back on both Gus and Sasha’s food intake. The grays are perfect.

Shots went ok but she’s overweight. Gained 4 lbs. in 2 yrs. Do you think SW will help her?

Oh bless her. ‘Fish’ is syn free if that helps. Is she sneaking Gus’s food do you think?

She’ll eat anyone’s food (not people food though). Gracie diddles around at dinnertime so she’s often a target unless I’m standing guard.

I like Debra’s suggestion… cats love Churu, it’s magic. I betrayed Z Cat’s tiny trust at the end because I had to give her shots. She was hiding under the dining room table all the time. I don’t think it was giving her the shot but how the shot felt after getting it in her system. I felt awful. If Churu would have been around then, I am pretty sure I could have done the shot while SSNS squeezed up the Churu. I definitely think Sasha and Gus were in cohoots! HAHAHA!

Sasha went to the vet so both she and Gus are all freaked out. Both are also overweight and need to diet. Putting cats on a diet is not fun! Churu for ear cleaning may help.

Yes, sneaking up on a food coma cat is always my preferred mode of attack. It drops the degree of difficulty down about one-tenth. Maybe.

I’ve learned that the hard way. He is still very freaked out when he eats so I’ve probably scarred him for life or at least the week!

If he’s still eating, it’s probably just for the week!

Oh he’s still eating. That’s one of his favorite things. Just not when I’m within grabbing reach.

I don’t know if it would work but you might try having Dan give Gus the Churo treats (liquid cat food, comes in a tube) while you do the medication . May or may not work. https://www.chewy.com/inaba-churu-grain-free-tuna-salmon/dp/169579
