Sassy cats — Summertime and the living is easy…..

Want to know how to pass the time? Here is a suggestion from Morgan and Sasha.

Unless you can get some catnip, naps are the best!

Have a great weekend. For those of you in the US, Happy 4th of July!

  1. A long holiday is perfect for toes up. The fireworks have been going off every night til midnight since mid-May, so technically, or should I say legally, people are allowed to shoot them off the day before the holiday and the actual holiday. The only other day it is LEGALLY allowed is New Year’s Eve/New Year’s Day. So, given to license to shoot ’em off, no telling how long they’ll go this time. I have had a nap mid-day during the 4th of July holiday just to catch up on my sleep because I like to walk in the early morning when it’s cool. Something’s gotta give – no use going to bed early with those big boomers going on.

      • They are so loud right now and using some type of “bomb” as they make a loud hissing type of noise. About 8 or so years ago, the then-Governor (Rick Snyder, the same one who messed up Flint in the infamous Flint Water Crisis) decided that Michigan should get the revenue for big fireworks that people would cross into Ohio to buy in their big tents around the 4th of July, So we can go to fireworks bricks-and-mortar stores to buy them, or just to the grocery store. They’ve been available since the beginning of May. There has been talk to repeal the law, but no action has been taken yet. I think more people hate them, than love them. It is rude and dangerous what they do now.

          • I agree. Someone in the neighborhood forum shared a drone video from our City – looked like a professional fireworks show. I hope they are done now – at the Park, they had left spent fireworks in the parking lot, big piles – no wonder it was so loud. One of our weathermen had a firecracker misfire a few years ago and is now blind in that eye. They sure are dangerous and I’ll be none of these folks had a hose and bucket of water handy to put out a fire either. They couldn’t get water at the Park – the bathrooms are not opened yet.

  2. I wish I was a good napper. I can’t seem to sleep much between 4am and 5:30am, so making the lost zzzzs during the day would be helpful. No fireworks here… at least the professional ones. Firecrackers have been going off just about every night around here (and, I understand, in many other places across the US). Reminds me of Mexico.

  3. Professional fireworks, can really take your breath away. I have loved them since I was a small child…what I did not love then, or now, are the ones that are just noise makers for just noise! They are not pleasant…they are not joyful…there is, in my opinion no reason for them. NONE. They do upset the dogs…turn on car alarms and sadly, very sadly our service men and women with PTSD are greatly affected. My rant for the the 4th! I hope your holiday is pleasant! 🎈🎆🎈🎆🎈

    • I like the professional ones. Big, beautiful and programmed. The amateurs that do them around here start at 10 a.m. and go on to the wee hours of the morning and it’s all ground stuff. Nothing anyone can see. People with dogs are up in arms and a local legislator has drafted a bill prohibiting them. People are just nuts. No common sense at all.

    • We are in a slow opening but our numbers have climbed slightly. The face mask has been extended to include anytime you are around people and can’t distance (except those you live with).

    • Locally one has been cancelled but there are others that are not. They can be viewed without being in a stadium. Our local ball park is having drive-in fireworks in the parking lot. Those aren’t bad. They are typically an hour and end at 10 p.m. When people do them, they start earlier in the day and keep on doing them until the keg kicks at 5 a.m.

  4. I’m hoping against hope, that it won’t be too loud this year. Last year they were firing bottle rockets at one another in the street. Not the sharpest knives in the drawer, that’s for sure!

Naps, are my favorite time of the day!

    • Tax money. They had calculated the taxes on fireworks (which are extremely high) would be in the millions to billions. Go figure. There was a lot of protesting but it went through anyhow. Animal rights groups (animals are terrified and many dogs go missing), urban folks (it’s not allowed there but you know…people who think it’s their constitutional right), and people who just like peace and quiet. We have municipal fireworks which are fabulous and timed appropriately. There were fireworks going off at 2 a.m. last night. What’s with that?

      • Legalized? Bet that cheered the fire dept and ER docs.
Most big ones in local cities/entertainment areas canceled here. The massive sit out on the lawn and listen to music then the giant fireworks festival will happen – only people can’t be there – it’s all streamed/on tv. But they are rearming the fireworks higher in sky so maybe you can see them from your driveway. Thoughtful.
The fur inhabitants here are hoping for a quieter time on the block.
        A 4th we’ll remember, right? Cheers!

        • A YEAR we will remember. Yes, legalized. It was about the money because a lot of people including our local hand specialist surgeon who does a graphic story every year, opposed it. Money! Fireworks have almost as high a tax as cigarettes.

          • Oh the tax. Communities are really scrambling to make up COVID tax losses.
Still like you say, the ER docs and fire departments are nervous…as well as anyone who ever had a firecracker go off in hand or under foot. That’s one childhood tradition that really should be shelved – especially now that kids listen every less, and are less supervised …although here, it’s the big “kids” after a few beers that are the trouble
