Sassy cats — Pumpkin revolt

Could it be this exhausted kitty sleeping with the stuffed black lab?

Something went down on Tuesday night. I slept through it but it must have been a humdinger. When we got up on Wednesday morning the only evidence was a small “Jack B Little” pumpkin on the floor. With bite and claw marks.

The pumpkin was part of a group that was on the dining room table. (That’s the table where that cats are forbidden to go.) None of the others had punctures. I can only envision what happened.

The great pumpkin hunter came through and cut one off from the herd, the same way the mighty lions do on the Savannah. The old or the weak or the young. The hunter batted it on the floor. The pumpkin fought back. It was a valiant fight. The pumpkin survived with only puncture wounds that sadly would hasten decomposition.

Who was the hunter? Was it the same cat that decapitated the mouse? The pumpkins have been here for over a month and no one has shown interest. Hard to say who. Another mystery of life!

Or could it be sweet Gracie, also exhausted.

  2. Whoa – wait a minute … the saying goes the other way around … “when the cat’s away, the mice will play” … so much for that theory of hijinks when left to your own devices when Mom is not around and looking over your shoulder. 🙂

  3. The old saying “when the mouse is away, the cats will play” … in this case is was “when Mom is away, the cats will play” … roughhousing they thought would remain unnoticed by Mom who slept soundly upstairs.

  4. I was laughing out loud by the time I got to the ‘hunting one off from the herd’ part 😆

Personally, I think they’re both guilty. With two kindred spirits under one roof, you can – and should – expect shenanigans 😇😇

    • I have my money on Sasha but Gracie isn’t a long shot either. She tends to hang back but she can get into stuff too. Morgan has sort of outgrown that stage. Mostly. Especially with mice this year. Need to talk to her about that!

  5. The Rhyme of the Courageous Pumpkin:
    Though those on paw
    Disobeyed the law
    And unsheathed the claw
We will forever speak with awe
    Of the Pumpkin who fought
    And escaped getting caught.
Off the table in one bound,
    Despite the fangs around!
    Steamrolling his foe
    Until they hissed with woe:
    “Fine, we’ll let you live
    Until there’s thanks to give.”
    Pumpkin held his head high
    But the weeks flew by
    And soon he was pie.

  6. that’s a miracle… things what are there for such a long time become the show stopper over night… I wish I could act like my dogs, I maybe would discover the sweater what’s in my closet for two years… and I suddenly would love it…or no wait… I would rip it to pieces if I would be a dog … that’s an option, it was a mispurchase.. LOL
