Sassy cats — Let sleeping cats lie

It’s been hot. Almost hot enough to fry an egg on the driveway. Certainly too hot for any self-respecting cat to do much except eat, poop and sleep. My cats are champion sleepers (and poopers and eaters!). Most of my pictures are of them sleeping. All but Hazel sleep deeply without concern. Hazel is more alert and wakes up when she hears anyone walking nearby (nearby is defined as within three miles). Morgan on the other hand, will sleep through a war or a zombie apocalypse. I have already touched her totally startling her from a deep sleep. Wish I could bottle that and sell it.

Gracie is a good sleeper too. If she doesn’t want to be disturbed she sleeps under the bed but she will also sleep on any cushioned (must be cushioned) horizontal surface.

Here is Gracie oblivious to everything but dancing tunas!

Hazel, on the other hand, does not mind a hard surface. Here she is hanging with her peeps at the edge of the dining room table (where she is not allowed).

Mollie sleeps head in! DO NOT DISTURB!

Morgan can sleep on a wash line! Or twisted up like a pretzel.

Everyone here wishes you a great weekend!

Author’s note: A frequent commenter went to spam today. I have no idea why. Hopefully you won’t have that issue. I will check periodically to rescue anyone stuck in that purgatory!

  1. Your babies are beautiful. Mine does the same. Leo is my firstborn kitty , a lion like rescue. Then Leo rescued Snosey (who looks like a panda) and Hubby’s second rescue and my last born Jag, who looks like a black Jaguar is the baby of the family. Every morning at 4, he finds me to sleep on my chest. When we found him he was the size of my palm and grew up sleeping on me.
We are so blessed, poop and all.🤗

    • It’s cooled off here. We didn’t hit 70 today and are not expected to hit 60 tomorrow. It was 93 36 hours ago! The cats do dream. They sometimes talk or shake their paws while they sleep. Sometimes they wake up abruptly too like maybe a nightmare. (Like running out of tuna!)

  2. Hazel brings her cushions with her. It’s the advantage to being a bit rounder than the vet likes. Also, of course, sleeping anywhere you aren’t supposed to be makes it more comfy. There’s probably an equation for that in a cat’s head. 😉

  3. I love your pictures. We now have only one cat Tilly. She is a light sleeper but seems to be able to fall asleep within about five minutes in any position. I wish I could.

    • There are definite hot and cold poses. Even though the house has a/c they will often stretch out. On the porch they love the hard tile. It’s always cool. Still they lie on their back with the feet splayed. Morgan will bunny kick you to death if you touch her belly twice. The first time gets a hairy eyeball (just one! 🙂 )

  4. I love your descriptions–and the pictures! I hear that cats sleep 20 hours out of every day. They must be very efficient to cram in all that eating, pooping, grooming, and social interacting in the other four. Have a great weekend, Kate! ❤

    • It varies with age. The older the more sleep. This summer Gracie finally started taking a morning nap until noonish. I did the happy dance. I like to get my work done in the morning and she wanted to play.
