Random 5 for May 27 – Bedsheets, cookies, wedding anniversaries, stink, Memorial Day

My brother and his lovely bride taken yesterday.

Congratulations – Thursday was my brother and sister-in-law’s 60th wedding anniversary. They are as different as can be. Some folks thought it would never last but relationships are about more than similarities or differences. It’s about caring and love and pushing through when things get tough. They know how to do that! Congrats to two of my favorite people.

Yeowza! – Our weather warmed up considerably. We went from the 60s right up to 90 degrees without much in between. After a warm night sleeping in a pool of sweat, I realized the flannel sheets were still on! Not anymore. I love knitted sheets for the summer. It’s like sleeping on tee shirts, soft and cool and DRY.

I missed the memo – Every time I visit someone’s blog I get a message about cookies. These are blogs I’ve been visiting for a while. I received a message on my own blog that I need to have a notice for readers from Europe. (Not sure what would happen if I didn’t. Get arrested? I don’t look good in orange.) Something changed. I hope it’s a once and done deal! Pop ups are annoying for everyone. I’m not sure this notice will change how people use the internet but you never know!

Another surprise with the heat – My gym smelled like a gym but not obnoxiously. It didn’t smell like my high school gym after physical education classes. PHEW! I’ve always been surprised that it was so well ventilated. Then it turned 90 degrees outside. Holy cow! Testosterone is not a good smell! It wouldn’t attract me to a mate. We are lucky those cave people mated!

Memorial Day – In the United States we celebrate Memorial Day tomorrow when we recognize people who died in the armed services. I am very fortunate that none of my relatives died in service. However, I did have some friends and classmates who died in the Vietnam War. I will be thinking of them all.

So how was your week?

  1. I don’t think I got online one time over the 3-day weekend. We didn’t even have a lot planned but relaxation and to remember those who served. It was a nice internet break. The Sunday before Memorial Day weekend it was 55 degrees here. The Sunday of Memorial Day weekend it was 93 degrees! Whew! I showered 3 times. I hate sweat for the very reason you mentioned, stink! Congratulations to your bro and sis-in-law. Wish I could say my bro and his wife are my faves, but they are not friendly people.

  2. Is Memorial Day for only the military dead or for all deceased? If it is for honoring military, what is Veterans’ Day for? And the 4th of July is a patriotic holiday too. Anyhow, it rained today and I didn’t get to fly my flag, so maybe next time.

  3. I was delighted to see a photo of your brother and SIL. Lovely! Thanks for showing them off. Congratulations on 60 years together! Our 54th is next month when we will focus on the high school graduation of our younger grandson. Many things take precedence over old news or oldsters in the news. That suits us.

  4. Your sister-in-law looks good considering the challenges she’s faced recently. Good for her.

We only in the last week started putting on our overhead ceiling fan in the bedroom before going to sleep. Yep, it’s that time again. – Marty

  5. I think we are being hit with a variety of memos and messages on all social media to guarantee the administrators have informed us of any data mining or security weaknesses. The result has been a frustration because I don’t remember some of the passwords and related info and it’s a slow slog through the process. More uplifting, such an accomplishment to boast of a 60year marriage! Many good wishes sent their way!

  6. Congratulations to the happy couple on their Diamond Wedding anniversary.
As for the cookies thing, yeah, I can live with that. The GDPR though is a pain and I’ve put a new page on my blog about it. It’s to do with data privacy, General Data Protection Regulation and we can thank the EU for it. We are supposed to have more control over how companies hold our data and pass it on to others. I do not give my consent for them to use my personal information as I am not a trader, or in business, but an individual.

  7. Congratulations to your brother and his wife…they’re a beautiful couple. Our spring split two weeks ago. We’ve had persistent tropical down pours and incredibly high dew points. The upcoming weeks will bring the same. Fortunately the tree frogs are thrilled. WP gave me a message that I just had to click to be in compliance. I think it’s a lot of hype, but whatever. Have a wonderful holiday, Kate!

  8. Congrats to your brother and sis-in-law. We had our 34th on the 20th. Shared the day with our daughter’s graduation so we didn’t make a big deal of it, but we did remark that we’ve been with each other over half our lives. The new policy shows up automatically on both my WP and my Blogger sites and I didn’t have to do anything, not that I have readers from far away anyway. Have a nice Memorial weekend!

  9. We have a 60th Anniversary Party to attend in 2 weeks (not ours!) ~> what a milestone for the cute couple!

I’m glad that WP is pointing me in the right direction so that all I have to do is click a few buttons to be in compliance with the privacy policy changes for European readers.

I don’t like smelling body odor. PU!

  10. Congrats to your brother and his wife. Great picture of them.
I am loving this heat. However, the a/c wars have begun. I hate being cold. And speaking of heat, how are the frogs doing?

  11. Your brother and sis-in-law are such a cute couple! Sixty years, that rocks!

The GDPR-compliance thing is confusing! My blogging platform now puts up a cookie info banner for EU logins, and it changed my comment section for me (giving readers less choice in the ways they can comment). I’ll be putting up a recommended privacy policy statement . . . not because I know what I’m doing, but because someone in the blogosphere told me it’d be a good idea. Confusing indeed!

  12. I, more often than not, have to clear my browsing history on my phone to be able to like or comment on your blog and others. What’s up with that? Sometimes it’s a process when I’m traveling with little service – like today.
