Sassy cats — Do you want butter on your biscuits?

Cats and kittens knead soft surfaces including your lap, legs or tummy. No one knows exactly why but it seems to make them happy. All my cats will do it but no one does it like Gracie. She is the “bestest” baker!

She will knead or “make biscuits” as we call them for a long time. She purrs through it all, then takes a nap.

Here is a video of her kneading a fleece throw that covers my legs. She is purring but the camera doesn’t pick up the sound although you can faintly hear the beloved husband playing the guitar in the next room. Gracie hopes that you have something that makes you happy!

Happy groundhog day! We consider this the downward slide to spring!

  1. Nothing to do with your topic… but I wanted to tell you about a guy that I saw at the mall today with his cat. The cat was on a leash but was sitting as calm as could be on his shoulder. Someone picked up their little dog to bump noses with the cat… it just there sat calmly. Zombie cat? Kitty valium? Who knows.

  2. I think it’s the leftover, reflexive, “happy time” from kneading their mama cat’s teat for milk. If they get a warm, furry surface, they flashback. It’s a compliment. 🙂 Bat Cat always did it on my one teddy bear.

  3. Kittens do it on Mama while they are nursing. Very contented kitten kneading…always wondered if it encourages Mama cat to release milk? Why some adults do it…maybe happy kitten memories? Who knows? But I could hear her purring away. Sweet!! 🙂

  4. I used to have a kneader. She would wake me up in the middle of the night with her loving. I called it passive aggressive kneading because she seemed to knead me when she wanted me to wake up and let her under the covers.

  5. It’s so relaxing! Not just for the cat but sometimes for the human too. I need occasionally. Okay maybe it’s not kneading. Let’s call it making biscuits. Butt biscuits that is. Snorts and rolls with piggy laughter. Happy Friday my friend. XOXO – Bacon

  6. One of our cats likes to do that to my tail! It’s okay while his paws are just in the fluff, but when he reaches the fleshy part it hurts and I move my tail. Then we have a game where he tries to catch my tail as I swish it about.
