Morgan: What’s the big deal with this daylight savings time? Time is time. Why does it make a difference?
Mollie: Little grasshopper, it’s all about the food.
Morgan: Food? Why?
Mollie: The crazy people who live here feed us on THEIR schedule, not ours. (Our schedule says feed at 3 a.m. That’s when our ancestors hunted.) We have to wait until they get up. In the spring they get up an hour earlier so we get fed an hour earlier.
Morgan: That should make Hazel happy!
Hazel: Food? Are we talking food here?
Mollie: The problem is in the fall. The clocks go back. They feed us an hour later.
Hazel: I remember that. I hollered loud and long until I got fed.
Mollie: I remember too. I had to go under the bed so I didn’t hear your serenade. You know you can’t sing.
All: Crazy humans!
A fun read and such brilliant cats!! Thanks for a laugh!

Can’t wait till its over, another week to go here and we are done for another year. My youngest cat wakes me at 6.30 on the dot for her treat every morning, yes she is spoilt but now that will be later and I can sleep in yay!

I agree with your cats, Kate! Daylight Savings or not–pick one and stick with it! Adjusting twice a year seems unnecessary!

They don’t like anything that pushes their food hour back.

This made me smile. Not only have my fur pups had to deal with the DSL schedule switch, but I’ve also recently been taking some medication that has affected my sleep patterns, so there are some days where our whole schedule is out of whack. Although their dinner time might end up being my breakfast time on some days, there is no mistaking when it’s their dinner time. No clocks needed, thanks. They always remind me, emphatically. 🙂
Loved the photos you shared of your kitty clan. 🙂

They have a way of stating their issue that is pretty powerful. When I was young, our family cat would sit on my mother’s pillow and stare at her until she woke up. My mother always got up early but that cat was there with her eyes on the prize.

Hi, Kate…new here. Found you by way of a comment on The Spectacled Bean. I can so relate to this post as a fellow cat owner. On a related note, I’ve been working on a new habit to get up early to write (my ultimate goal is to get up at 4:30a…I’m at about 5:15ish now). Yet for a long time I resisted because of the cats and the fear of setting a dangerous precedent. Once they get used to an early breakfast, will I ever be able to sleep in again???

Welcome! Probably not. At least not without cats staring at your face while you are trying to sleep. Once their dinner times are establish they don’t like to move that back. Up, yes but not back.

We love DST here ~ In the winter, Tigger wakes BFF at 6 am. Once we reset the clocks to DST, he wakes BFF at 7 am. Same feeding time for him. Better hours for BFF!

This is why my cats aren’t allowed to hang with yours. We’ve not told them about daylight savings time. Shhh!

It’s only one of the reasons. I’ve heard naughty things about your cats (and we all know mine are angels!).

Oh, yes. Animals in our house adapt very easily to Daylight Saving Time. Earlier food! Earlier walk! What could be better? Saturday morning is going to be so, so ugly. There will be howling. Vases will be “removed” from tables and dressers.

They don’t have a Saturday morning routine of sitting on your chest until you can’t breathe? I’ll send them the book on how to get your humans to feed you on a cat’s schedule.

Hmmmm. I think I’m concerned about your ability to actually know what they are thinking Kate. You’ve completely crossed over to their “universe.” Come back, Kate!

Oh yeah. They weren’t even ready for breakfast when it was served this past Sunday. (Love to catch them off guard.) However in the fall, there are big sad eyes for an hour. I’ve got to hide their Rolex.
