A wild week indeed!
Where are my vitamins! – It was an exhausting week – back from the beach, then an invasion of granddaughters. What I hate about aging is the lowered energy level. Doesn’t matter how you spin it, it’s less than it was 20 years ago. Sigh!
Quick! Under the bed! – That was uttered over and over by the feline residents as the energy level of the house peaked and waned. Only Morgan was delighted to see the short noisy people. She doesn’t think the rest of us are exciting enough for her.
Presents, presents – Cats have a way of making their feelings known even without the English language. Mollie took to barfing frequently. She even did a really big one right where I put my foot down getting out of the bed. Yes, I cleaned it up but that wet reminder was there for a day or two. On the other hand, Jake preferred to express his displeasure at 3 a.m. Egad! He’s lucky he’s alive.
Therapy – My favorite recovery method from all this high energy stuff is a touch of shopping. I found some fun sneakers (which I could use) plus a bunch of stuff I didn’t need at all (I resisted those, just pawing the merchandise was enough). I found nice tops for the granddaughters – colorful and good for school. I don’t intend to do too much this coming week. Lunch with some friends and finish a book is about it.
A touch of the past – My parents had 26 fruit trees in the yard. There was almost every kind you could want. They even had the blue damson plums which ripen right about now. I haven’t had those in 35 years easily but the neighbor bought some and shared. OMG! I forgot how good they are. We also had apricot trees which are best picked soft and ripe. Anything else just isn’t good enough for me. Fresh, wonderful apples are starting now too.
And how was your week?
Kate sounds like a boost of berocca’s might give you back your bounce. I live on them in the holidays being an older mum with tween kiddies. My cats disappear when we have visitors and I don’t blame them. Kids like to cuddle and squeeze and cats don’t. Hope you catch up and feel energised soon.

Sometimes I want to go under the bed when I have visitors too.

Kate … I envy you having those fresh plums. They look luscious. The co-owner of a Thai restaurant we’d gone to for years gave us some fresh mango from their back yard. They were lovely. We were sorry to see them close their restaurant. They were like family.

When I was in Hawaii, my friend and I were out in the country just driving around and stopped at a small local snack shop for burgers. There was a mango tree in the yard and the cook just scooped one up and sliced it on the plate instead of potato chips. OMG! Nirvana! It’s really hard to get fruit that wasn’t picked too early these days.

My father-in-law tended a big garden…fruit trees too. I miss all his bounty…miss him, too. My energy level has been in bed; disagreement w/a new med the doctor ordered. It’s on my list of no mores…yuck. Barfing is big time at our place; Gibby is barfing and barfing…and always in a different location. It’s a horrible shock to step into and it oozes tween my toes…Aargh. My sweet husband is quick to clean it up; love him. If this continues Gib may visit the vet…her bad. I really hope your new week, along with mine, is better. Yay for a lift!

Company is gone so the cats are settled back down again. Less barfing, yay! Your hubby is a keeper. Mine is wonderful but doesn’t do cat barf unless he really has to.

Now take a week to sleep, eat and shop – and cuddle those kitties! 🙂

Just a week? I was thinking maybe two….

Oh my, strategically-placed barf. I miss my kitty but not the little surprises she’d leave. I always got up a bit earlier than my husband so I could clean anything up downstairs before he saw it. Fortunately neither of us ever stepped in anything. Now I get my kitty-fixes from volunteering at the Humane Society as an ear scratcher and tummy rubber.

You might want to try vitamin B12, Kate. I take the fast dissolving, under the tongue brand and I can certainly tell the difference. Also, lots of water will help with energy levels.
I have no suggestions for stepping in cat puke other than, keep your shoes on. 🙂
My week was great!

I always have shoes on except when I am sleeping. Mollie figured that out so now she prefers that spot that where I step down for my potty run. Smart cat!

Ugh cat barf. Jeter likes to barf in the same spot under the dining room table by where I sit, so I tend to find it when we sit down to supper. Usually he only does it if we are away for some time.
I enjoy fresh fruit too. We never had fruit trees growing up, but our next door neighbour when I was in med school had a plum tree and kept us hooked up with fresh plums and plum jelly in the fall every year. It was pretty awesome.

It is awesome! Today no one wants the work of owning a fruit tree. It’s a pity. I have three in my yard but usually the critters get more than I do.

I didn’t understand at first what you meant by a Random five. Now I do. 🙂
Makes a good format for when you don’t have anything to post about. lol

Great for dribs and drabs that don’t comprise a full post. I try to keep Sunday reading lighter.

I have a whole folder with that kind of stuff. I called it OTHER. I have renamed it to DribsandDrabs. 🙂

Stepping in cat puke. A heck of a way to start the day. Sometimes I miss having an animal around (discovered I was allergic to cats later in life; landlord does not permit dogs). But I don’t miss the trips to the vet, finding a pet sitter, cleaning up sick, etc. I just make friends with pet owners so I can enjoy in small doses.

There were some years that I didn’t have a pet many moons ago. I used to go to pet lovers houses to soak up the love. It works but there is nothing as wonderful as your very own cat puke!

The best of the week is that you survived to write this post. Yay! You did it, you did it all.
Apples did you say? A granny smith apple called out to me this week as I was making cole slaw. I cut two quarters, stuck them in the food processor so we had cole slaw with apple. Now, what else can I do with all those apples? I really need grandson to help us eat them. He loves apples.

I love sneaking fruit in things like coleslaw and salads. I bet it was the best!

I’ll assume you did not figure a way to bottle the energy of the granddaughters….damn it. Fruit trees are incredible and surely missed by me. We had a cherry and apple trees in our yard. I also love plums and glad you were reintroduced to those blue beauties.

We had the best cherries — those yellow ones that tinge pink. I would eat gallons of them without getting sick! No wonder I have IBS now!

My parents grew apples, peaches, pears, cherries, grapes, rhubarb plus a ton of veggies, Nothing like fresh-picked tree-ripened fruit. YUM! Enjoy your plums .

You are so right. Even the local orchards pick fruit too early these days. I have tried buying apricots locally at the farmers market and they are not so good. Even if you wait until they ripen they are not as sweet. There is nothing like going from tree to mouth in a minute!

I’ll say it again…I LOVE HE RANDOM 5…you made me think of my grandmother’s apple tree and her vegetable garden. So thanks for that.
Love the barfing line…gifts. Well, at least no one brought in a bird or chipmunk. Cats don’t like change or noise. This I know.
And as far as energy goes, I know exactly how you feel. I need a nap after a nap.

Morgan is the only cat that enjoyed the commotion. What was really funny is that Jake would check to see if the car was in the driveway before coming into the house. He’s not as dumb as I sometimes think he is.
