Spring has been a long time coming this year. There are blossoms on the trees and budding leaves too, but there is a definite chill in the air.
It’s not the kind of weather that makes you want to frolic outdoors. The wind is whipping and the cats are searching for sun spots to nap. Even Jake, our only indoor-outdoor cat isn’t in the mood. Not even a chipmunk mocking him at the glass door can get him outside today.
The temperature has been up and down and doesn’t always match the sunshine. Despite the cold chill, the sun is out blazing today but you can’t feel the heat.
I read other bloggers talking about the warmth and wonder why it’s not coming north. Did we do something to annoy Miss Spring? Did she miss her bus? Did she run off to another hemisphere with a new lover?
There are new spring shoes that are aching to be worn.
The garden wonders where I am and so do the robins that are waiting for me to turn the soil over. They need the fresh worms for their new brood.
The lettuce seeds are anxiously waiting in their envelopes longing to feel the warm touch of damp soil. Those itty bitty seeds want to explode into greenery.
Tomato plants are quietly growing on the window sill. I tell them to be patient. They will be outside soon enough. They are excited to feel the sun on their leaves unfiltered by window glass. They are also tired of cat whiskers tickling them as they are checked each day for errant catnip plants.
The frogs have been sunning themselves in sheltered spots. No need to sit too high where the wind blows through. They have not started their courting songs yet but they have been eyeing each other. I could swear I heard one saying, “Hey baby, how about a date?”
It’s that suspended time when it’s not the spring of our dreams but it is by the calendar.
One day it’s gorgeous. The next is cold or rainy or windy or all three. The weather is not consistent so whatever you wear is wrong.
The days are getting longer and the sun will get warmer. The windows will open to embrace the sounds of mating and all will be right with the world again.
In the meantime, where is Miss Spring?????
Your tomatoes look like they have used winter to their advantage. They’re getting eager to get outdoors and enjoy springtime, also! Mollie and Morgan don’t look too perturbed! They seem to be quite content no matter the weather. 🙂

The cats are always happy or maybe nappy!

I love that photo of Mollie soaking up the sun as she lounges on your dappled red carpet (Beautiful, BTW). I’d loan you some Spring. But we’ve also had real warm and then chilly days and/or nights. Hang in there, Kate. Spring is just around the corner. 😉

So “they” say! Mollie thanks you as she wasn’t sure I got her best side.

I don’t know how I missed this…I checked in…hmm…I love when you include the cats , like they’re your co-writers. Wendy Wasserstein, bless her, always said her cat wrote everything. Morgan and Mollie…I can see them with a yellow legal pad scratching out ideas 🙂

I can’t always print their ideas. They get a bit racy but they are great inspiration! Today both of them have been racing around the house. The other two are napping. It’s just a bit warmer but we are expecting rain any minute.

Here too…it suddenly got very dark…hurried home from sneaking a slice of pizza…don’t tell my cholesterol.

I am running out of patience waiting here in Wisconsin. We’ve had some “not-too-bad” weather and that’s it so far.

I hear you. Today it went up to 68 but it was a very cold 68. I still had a flannel shirt on with socks and a jacket. Maybe it’s me but this isn’t what I was expecting with global warming.

And if you don’t seek, you won’t find, right?!

Absolutely! I have been amazed because my cats do eat grass and catnip but they never bother house plants or seedlings. Very good cats.

Definitely for those two. I need to clean out the beds first anyway and I’m just not motivated with the weird weather we have been having. It looks lovely out right now (9 a.m.) but it’s around 40 degrees.

I can just feel your anticipation and yearning for that elusive spring. It’s about time after all! I love the photo of Mollie in her little patch of sunlight. Find your own spot Kate and soon it will grow – guaranteed. Spring is just playing temporary tricks on you. 🙂

Yes, I’m gonna kick her butt when she gets here. In the meantime, I’ll look for a sunspot to curl up in.

Dear Ms. Kate — I seriously suspect she’s taken a boat to the Islands. For the greater good, I volunteer to go look for her…field research is key in solving any mystery. I know, I know – what a guy!
On a serious note, I’ve been on the dark side of the moon for awhile and will likely be for awhile longer, but so cool to stick my head up long enough to see you there. Well and peacefully rendered. Travel well. Dan

I’ll try and send some spring weather your way, Kate. I can’t count the number of times, while living in Virginia, that we went from cold temperatures to hot and humid. I always wondered where spring went. I hope that’s not the case for you.

I fear that will happen this year. This hasn’t been a normal spring. As much as I love hot weather, I would prefer to do the clean up and early garden work when it’s more pleasant. Do send some nice days up!

I caught T-Bob yesterday finding his patches of sunlight on the back room floor. He never goes back there because of the hardwood I guess, but there he was dozing.

It’s amazing how they will seek out the smallest patch of sunlight and bask in it until it moves.
