Comment Spam Public Service Announcement | For bloggers

If you have been getting spammed when commenting on a blog because you forget to uncheck that tiny box that is now checked as default, there is a way that you can set up your own blog so it doesn’t happen to your commenters.

Go to your dashboard, click on settings, click on discussion. If you scroll all the way down there is a box where you will see:

Show a ‘follow comments’‘ option in the comment form

If you unclick that box, that option will not be available for your commentors so they won’t get spammed. For some reason you may have to do it twice.

This public service message has been brought to you by Judy Berman of earthriderdotcom who got it from Rumpydog who got it from

Sure wish I would have figured it out sooner.

    • They are out of luck. If you think there are a lot of them, you can keep it open and maybe put a note at the bottom to be sure to uncheck if they don’t want them. WP people should know to do that by now. I always fear that getting a whole series of emails that someone doesn’t want will discourage comments, especially from non-bloggers.
